Posting this to show how I added an additional Tail/Brake bulb to the rear taillight of my 2009 Liberty

Tools required:
10mm socket
12 volt tester ( to check the wires)
Wire Stripper
Pliers (to crimp t-taps)
2 Short pieces of 14-16 g wire
Electrical tape
6 T-Taps and mail connectors
Drill and bits
File

Remove the 2 bolts that hold the tailight assembly ( right side shown)

You have to grab the light at the side where it meets the body and gently tug it free.

I found a metal 2 wire socket at a local parts store Part number was 1154B Not sure of the brand ( sorry)

This socket has 2 tangs that are tension loaded that hold the socket in place. They are meant for 2 filament bulbs and I purchased # 2057 so I could make them both a running light and a brake light (Personal choice)

There are 2 wires running from the socket , one will display a brighter light than the other so make sure you test them first. I grounded the housing on a negative battery post, then touched the other 2 seperately to the positive and found out which one was brighter. The brighter one obviously is the brake light.

I had to run a ground wire to the metal socket which I twist tied and taped on ( probably should have soldered it)

The tail light housing has a round flat surface which I drilled and ground out just wide enough for the bulb to go thru.

To hook up the wires I used T-Taps, but I am sure you an use whatever method you want.

I found on the right side at least that the White with purple stripe wire was the brake line and the white with green stripe is the running or park light line.

The ground was the black with white stripe.

Please test your lines with a 12 volt tester so you have the right lines. I hooked them all up and tested to make sure they worked according to plan.

I then inserted the metal socket into the hole and drilled and added some tape to hold the socket ( just in case )Tape not shown.

Your welcome Thanks for the comments.
You should only need to get the "other half" out for about 2 hours , if you take your time. LOL

awesome. thanks ken5124... can't wait to try this!

would it make sense to use single-filament bulb for just a running light? (no brake light)

For running light only yes 1 filament would be correct

I don't think I can post it there. ?

I have been on the site as a guest many times, but figured it was time to join. My summer car is a restored 65 Valiant signet and it winds up getting most of my attention.

Had a 2005 Liberty before the 2009.
