I have a 48" Hi-Lift. I was storing it under the back seat, but had to disassemble it to get it to fit under there. I recently broke the reversing switch while reassembling it...It was completely my fault, I didn't have the beam completely through the lower runner and it (the main beam) was in a bind against the "lip" inside of the lower runner. When I gave the jack handle a pump to get things moving, something had to give...I ordered a new reversing switch, and received it within three days. Luckily, I was going to be using my Hi-Lift to uproot some small locust trees, not in a situation where I needed it... I would like to keep my Hi-Lift fully assembled, and ready to use. I found out that it will fit, fully assembled, in the rear of the cargo area, but I would rather store it just behind the rear seat. After measuring it looks like a 42" Hi-Lift would fit perfectly there. Could I cut the main beam of my Hi-Lift down to 42", or would I be better off to just buy a 42" beam?

Thanks, that would be great! By the way, tell your friend that my recent experience with Hi-Lift (ordering parts) was great. I ordered the part I needed on the Friday before Memorial Day, around three PM. Even though it was a holiday weekend, I had my part by Tuesday morning!

Are you saying that you have "cut down" a Hi-Lift?

I store my 48 hi-lift under the rear seat without a problem. inserted from the drivers side. handle to the rear. I no longer carry the stock jack as its worthless anyway. For lug removal, I carry a breaker bar for the lug nuts that I store in the fold behind the longer side of the back seat.

I wouldn't cut down the hi-lift.

Talked to my buddy and he said cutting it down will not hurt quality. Take it to a metal shop and have them shear it or such so less heat
