well i finally figured out what the noise in the rear of my crd is. after tearing apart the brakes and finding that the pads were still good i put the wheels back and put it in drive while i still had the back wheels off the ground to check and see if it was bearing that had gone bad. my rear drivers side wheel was wobbling slightly. took the wheel off put the spare and ran it again with the wheels off the ground and still had the same wobble. a year and a half ago i was messing round in the snow in a unplowed parking lot and i was competing with a subaru wrx seeing who could do more consecutive 360s and i beat him but hit a curb that was buried in the snow and cracked my rim and popped my tire. it just finally started making a terrible whining noise and then a scraping noise when i stop hard while hauling my trailer. guess ill think twice this year when I am being stupid doing donuts in a parking lot. so now i need some advice. how hard are these inner axles to swap out and how are they held in place inside the rear end? any advice would be appreciated.

Inside the rear differential there's a clip that holds the axel in.
You will need to remove all brake parts on that wheel then slide the axel out.
Then you'll need to remove the bearing and there's a bearing puller for this tool from Harbor Freight for $30 for a set of three.
http://www.harborfreight.com/rear-axle- ... 66380.html

You'll need a new axel shaft, bearing and the clip inside the differential is a good idea too.

I've done this job on a XJ and assuming other then different brakes it would be the same. It didn't take too long and was not hard. :JEEPIN:

I just posted about doing the same thing (Not in the exclusive CRD section though, lol).
Here is my post viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69046

I'm getting mixed feelings about the swap, some say it's extremely easy, others not so much, lol.

I think I might just attempt it myself..

Here is the tool I borrowed from AutoZone. (Looks like the same one from Harbor Freight)
Also pictured is a new Timken Bearing from AutoZone, it was $12.99.

In the "noob" thread there's a location to down parts fich. Look around and you'll find most jeep manuals. Thank you Sir Sam :SOMBRERO:
Get the Liberty's and the wrangler's and compare part numbers.
