Parts department said that a seal kit goes along with the torque converter and the front seal is part of that kit, no pump included.

Here is the TSB for the F37: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19672761/F37_recall.pdf

BUT the seal for the original pump was supposably no longer available making a new pump necessary to replace the seal :dizzy:
I wonder if this has changed of if they kept a stock of old seals??
I got a new pump no problem when I told them that when they replace my TC :CAMPING:

Is there a TSB on the pump alone?

None that I know of and I think I have a pretty comprehensive list of TSBs for 05-06. A TSB is how to address a customer concern and may or may not result in a no cost repair depending on the issue. In the case of the pump as I understand it this is a part that has been redesigned and if it fails during the warranty period you get a new pump and it would be a 2n gen OEM pump because the 1s gen is no longer available.

My crd had the f37 done in november 2006 and I was informed that the pump was changed along with the TC. Would the pump they installed be the most current?

I just got the new OEM TC installed on Monday and I am getting mild shutter, abrupt shut downs when coming to a stop and at first start up in the morning.

The filters were replaced but the transmission pump was not.

Any help or ideas as to what the casue could be?

Thanks

I don't know but I am having similar issues right now and would be interested in hearing of any resolution you find. Hopefully soon here I will be able to do some diagnostics.

What do you mean by "abrupt shut downs when coming to a stop"? Are you describing a harsh downshift or shutting off the engine?

If you are getting a shutter already, is it the same as before? i.e. Did they actually replace the darn thing? Did you see the old TC?

Went back to the dealer and the service manager said to keep driving it and allow ECM and TCM to learn.

It is shifting better but I still have mild shutter between 55 to 60 and when it locks up.

You hear a big thump at first start up after sitting over night or for over 8 hours.

I found out that the original tranny filters were not replaced.

You probably should have had them replace the front pump too. Prior to my TC altogether going out, mine was not disengaging at stops either, primarily on cool days after initial start-up. It was suggested to me by Danoid that at low speed the pump wasn't generating enough pressure to disengage the TC...supposedly it could have an internal leak and was simply sending fluid back to the sump.

I would have hoped they did a quick learn. Shame on them for not changing the filters when doing the TC work.

Mine is still shifting a bit rough too, but I've only been driving it the past week. I installed a Suncoast, Sharadon Stage II valve body, and new pump. I didn't have a quick learn done since it has progressed well on relearning the past week. The shifts are still a bit rough at low speed prior to the ATF getting to operating temperature, but it only sees that condition once a day, so we still have a ways to go on that one.

Regardless of the "it's still learning" process, I'm inclined to think that you shouldn't be getting shudder at any condition. You may want to keep pestering them.

Are you sure they did not replace the filters? That makes no sense with new fluid or really under any circumstance if the pan is dropped. If so, that dealer needs to be taught or close shop.

The service writer said that they were not changed. He didn't receive a confirmation from the tech that they were replaced.

I will speak to the tech who did the work on Monday and confirm.

Are you sure that the $tealership even replaced the TC? A shudder right away should not occur. If it was my Jeep, I would crawl under the drivers side and look at the bolts on the starter, trans pan, and cross members to see if a wrench has even been put on them. If no wrench has been on the starter or cross member, they never dropped the trans.
Next time You visit the dealer (ASAP, like today) go into the parts dept. and ask to see the old TC. I personally always have them write on the service order that the old parts are to be saved for me to inspect. My :2cents:

The TC was replaced, I have pictures of the old TC with part number.

Here is my observations of the new torque converter while driving today.

When engine reaches operating temps, I can feel mild shutter at 30 to 40mph then at 45 to 55 with a little more increase in shutter.... medium to severe shutter at 60 to 70 and above, and especially when the TC is fully locked up.

Excessive ticking sound from transmission while coming to a rolling stop and at idle.

Have not experienced abrupt shut downs like i did a few days ago when first starting the vehicle and after sitting over night.

Something is still very wrong in there then. I just drove 200 miles at an almost constant 95mph without any shudder at all from the transmission.

That does not sound good. Hopefully they installed your flexplate bolts properly and they are not backing out.

Just for giggles, check the trans fluid level. I had the experience of finding my fluid level a quart low the last time I had a TC done by the dealership.

The pan does not need to be removed to replace the TC or front pump.
As I recall LONG ago is was said one feature of the redesigned front pump was to reduce air leaks :juggle:
