Anyone want to defend FRAM filters?

wow I did not know how bad they were. I used to buy that junk before I came here and bought my Jeep. Its a wonder I ever had good clean oil in those cars.

I would have to agree with the video those are good for target practice with their nice orange color.

I been using NAPA Gold or Motorcraft if I can't get to NAPA when there open. my last oil analysis was real good with the motorcraft except for high silicon that they don't think can be dirt getting in by the way low wear metals in the oil..... I am still puzzled by that little fact I can only think that its from a soap or some other product that car wash at Apple auto park is using. I been on a monthly unlimited express wash plan for about a year and Blackstone suggested the source could be a detailing product.

Fram standards are junk. Tough Guards are mediocre.

Fram filters make a nice placeholder to keep bugs and stuff out of your engine while it sits on the engine stand.

Mobil 1 M1-301 for me, always. I've never touched Fram crap, b/c that is exactly what it is: crap.

I had been told how bad they were but never really thought they were that bad!!! did you see in the video that there was a place on the Fram filter media that you could clearly see straight through to the other side? The oil and dirt could just by pass the filter. That is either total junk or a real efficient by pass valve design :ROTFL:

I used to be a diehard fram guy until about 15 years ago or so. after that I switched to NAPA/WIX "premium" filters exclusively. I get a decent discount (about $1/filter) from my local NAPA as I usually buy a mixed case a year. having 5 vehicles I maintain that use 2 filters across them makes it easy to just buy in bulk.

I wonder how the OEM Mopar oil filter stacks up to other filters? May have to buy one and cut it open and see.

Any ways their air filters suck just as bad, I once bought a tdi and it had a fram in it, it was the right part number, but the gasket was not thick enough to properly seal it to the filter box, and the box was dusty on the clean side. I contacted fram and all they did was defend it was made to OEM specs. :roll:

Havent used fram filters in years probably since the mid 90s. Reason was, I was at Willow Springs Raceway during a motorcycle road race and on the track. I was coming out of turn 4b down the hill and I see one guy go off at turn 8. Turn 8 is the fastest section of the track. As I go over the hill at turn 6 I see several more go off. I let off the gas and had a few guys blaze buy me, one goes down. I am almost creeping along as I see the red flag come out. I go through the oil and almost crash myself. Luckily I had slowed down. After talking to one of the corner workers on the condition of the riders, I was told most were ok but there was one that they were praying for. Really bad head injuries.. The filter was properly wired and the safety wire was still holding the filter onto the bike. That day WSMC did another tech inspection and anyone with a fram spin on filter was done for the day. The club did go out and try to purchase as many stock filters as it could from the local dealership but no one was allowed to run fram filters. Turns out that the manufacturing was taken from one country to another and the threads on the filters were never checked. The major dia of the thread was correct but the minor dia of the thread was way to big. Not enough thread height and the filter just blew off.

MANN Filter all the way - unlike a lot of manufacturers, MANN actually MAKES the filter media and filter, start to finish. They are the OEM filter on VW, Audi, Mercedes, BMW....etc. etc. Most models are made in Germany, too.

Anyone want to defend FRAM filters?
