My wife took our CRD in this morning for a free oil change and was told that they are discontinuing the CRD due to "too many problems'". They should think before they speak as that comment would not leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling.

The only engine trouble we have had with ours is the EGR valve. I haven't seen anyone post any other major engine issues. Also they have been using a VM diesel in the KJ's in european markets for some time. It doesn't pay to worry too much about this as they still have to support it and VM will be around for parts should they be needed.

On a related note I am trying to find out if the egr valve is covered by the 100k engine warranty. Any else get an answer to that question?

I would suppect it is covered under EPA and probably has 100k warranty.

Perhaps the guy meant that the dealership was no longer going to carry CRD's, and the "too many problems" meant too much warranty work for the tastes of the dealership's owner.

When my friends in Texas looked at the possibility of trading theirs, they were given a lowball trade-in quote, and the salesman told them it was because of all the problem stories and badmouthing that was taking place on the internet.

Gawd, there's times I wish I could get ahold of some of the loudmouthed idiots on other forums and stupid a## dealers and smack them up side the head for some of the utter bulls### they're spreading.

Anyone notice that when it comes to problems with the CRD, it doesn't seem to be with the basic diesel engine? The EGR and occational glow pulg will continue to be an issue. Even sucking oil throught these they seem to be staying together. I'm more concerned about the basic Liberty and other DC hardware falling apart around the motor. When I start seeing threads like "Ouch, my CRD exploded today" or "That oil leak is a rod through the block" then I will become concerned.

I agree, the vast majority seems to be stuff the other diesel pickup manufacturers only wish they had to contend with over the years and they keep selling them pickups like hotcakes.
I also think there are a lot of people that don't and don't want to understand that the diesel engine in any vehicle is going to be a little bit different animal.
Guess I've been around Jeeps to long, this thing is the best one I've owned overall.

Let people say what they want.....I never purchased my CRD with the intention of it ever being an appreciating asset.

I'll just wait in the fuel lines thinking of how my #2 fuel is $0.25 to $0.35 per gallon cheaper than unleaded and how I can easily cruise 470--500 miles between fill-ups.

Pissssss on everyone else in the meantime.

I think that particular dealer ship is passing out a lot of drugs. Ya know the theory "Better life thru Recreational pharmaceuticals".

I think we will be seeing more of the small diesels in the US in the future. With the BlueTec technology and and the other R&D going into the smaller diesels and the ever expanding Biodiesel market. Especially the Biodiesel Co-ops. I think the media and all the neay sayers want us to believe that it isn't going to happen. DC only projected 5000 CRd's in 05. Even with a pi$$ poor advertising campaign they sold over 10K units. I wonder how many have been sold in 06 so far??

I just found about biodiesel and researched it to the point of trying a tankful. Saved over .40/gal over #2. If I join a coop or make my own can I get out of paying hiway taxes??

As for the dealer giving a low ball offer they were just trying to screw the customer. only the old 5.7 and 4.? GM diesels were actually a negative when selling. I think you have a lemon dealership and they are unscupulous.

gsbrockman, I have got to be doing something wrong then. The #2 Biodiesel here is alot more expensive than regular diesel and in turn more expensive than regular unleaded. It's hard to find in a commercial pump. That and I'm only getting about 300-340 miles per tank of fuel. I currently have almost 16K miles on my odometer.
