As I transition to retirement I am thinking I may trade my beloved CRD for a new 2014 Grand Cherokee CRD. I was considering a truck but the new diesels seem to get terrible mileage. I could give up the gooseneck cattle trailer for a bumper pull for livestock and I get an extra 2700 tow capacity. Has anyone gotten good reports on this CRD from the rest of the world?

I think that you're about a year and half away from that happening. In the meantime, stop thinking like a New York-er and enjoy the moment.

Hahahahaha! Actually recent articles suggest that Jeep is talking early release of the 2014 as early as January 2013. Or are you talking about when can retire? Remember that the first Mustang was released in February or March as a 1/2 year model. The 2013's start rolling off the assembly line this August.

Check out one of the Diesel Power Magazines with the Article on what Banks is doing with the VM V6 for military and other applications. It is a great engine if the EPA Management does not ingest Bath Salts (Bath Salts yield the results of LSD, Meth, Cocaine, and some other street drugs all in one) before it is approved and they screw it up or kill it for the US.

It's the same VM V6 as supplied in the current model Grand Cherokee CRD sold as an export model. I have driven one and while its a great highway touring sort of vehicle it can't keep up with the kJ off road, (ok it didn't have any mods). The issue that concerns me is that it is a fully integrated suspension system and this does not bode well for people that want to mod it in anyway. As with most of these newer SUVs in this category, the electronics and software control everything. I tend to prefer a simpler machine, like the kJ, which is really the last on the K' line that has good offroad capability and it easy to work on IMHO.

BTW GDE already supplies Tunes for this engine down here (Australia).

Thanks for posting Racer.

Thanks to you too Glend. I and thinking of it as a road rig with towing capacity and the ability to handle my country roads, rain....snow.....shine. Good to know it isn't a trail rig though.
