Hi I have a 2005 CRD 2.8l turbo diesel that starts up, runs for a few seconds and then dies. after a few repeated attempts it wont even start anymore (by that I mean it wont even crank) any idea what this could be related to? bad wiring? alternator? fuel pressure?

When is the last time you changed your fuel filter?

How old's the battey? If it can't maintain the voltage and eventually loses enough of the CCA to crank the starter. My battery had done about the same thing.

The anti theft system was my first thought. If your key is messed up, it will start, but it should stall after about 2-3 seconds. I know because I had a spare key made in case I ever locked my keys in the car. It will start the Jeep, but it doesn't run longer than 2-3 seconds. Your battery can be playing havoc with your anti theft system if it's going bad, or you could have a bad sensor. My sensor was replace in the first week of ownership back in 05 because the Jeep wouldn't even turn over. --- I can't remember the name of the system/sensor. I'm sorry. There's an acronym for it.

Good luck

The factory anti-theft system if it is installed is called the Security Key Immobilisor System or SKIS.
If you have it installed you should see a key symbol with a line going through it initially when you turn on the ignition.

The transponder inside the key transmits a code to the SKIM module which sits just a bit lower down on the steering column
and has a loop enveloping the key.

The SKIM module sends the code received to the ECM...if the ECM is happy with the code you can start the Jeep and it should run. If the ECM is not happy with the code you can start the Jeep but it will cut out....the Key symbol will either Blink or stay on solid if there is a problem. :)

That sounds like a fuel filter head issue unless you can turn it back over as soon as it cuts off.
