Excellent find, this is exactly the information I've been looking for. I stupidly stuck with the OP's suggestion of using SAE J1850-VPW which was my downfall. With the latest version of Torque and the 9141-2 protocol everything seems to be working (except TPS). No lockups on my 30 minute commute this morning which is better than the 15 min record I managed with Scangauge.

Now I'm also able to read codes with Torque I'm seeing B2TAE - Body which was also reported by the OP. Anyone got any suggestions as to what this code may be?

Update 1:
TGTBT, didn't last the commute home without hanging. It did manage to reconnect after a few minutes but had switched protocol to SAE J1850-VPW, even though preferred protocol is still listed as 9141-2, resulting in it reverting back to tach and TPS only.

Update 2:
After another 2 hours driving with it everything seems fine with no more freezing. I realised the freezing I observed ther other day was when I was running Torque Scan. I'm assuming reading a few PID's for refreshing half a dozen gauges is fine but when you bombard the ECU with a scan it causes a hiccup. I confirmed this by running Torque Scan again and if froze within a few minutes.

Mine is running better but still freezes. I hope to get it ironed out before my road trip.

Resurecting this... I have a Droid 4.0 tablet (without Bluetooth) it's a Zenitech and has mulit USBs and onboard wifi. Since I can't run bluetooth is there a simple way to run this sort of app via a USB attached ODBII dongle or is there a wifi ODBII dongle?

I have seen USB attached OBDII units. Should be some on ebay.

Not sure if you can get a USB bluetooth dongle that will work on Android.....I have one for my PC.

Anyone had any luck with the mpg measurement. I'm using the enhanced mpg calculation and the instantaneous mpg appears to be a bit low but in the right ballpark compared to what I'd expect. The average alternates between not being displayed at all or waaaaay too high, like up in the hundreds.

Bringing this topic back up...

I just got a Android phone (Samsung Tough Phone) and an ELM327 from Amazon. I tried it once today and it worked fine with 9141-2, but when I tried SAE J1850-VPW it crashed.

I don't have TPS, but I have:

TACH
Speed
MPG
Boost
MAF
Fuel Rail Pressure
Intake Pressure
Coolant Temp
Voltage

I haven't tried too many others but the ones that do NOT work are:

TPS (or accelerator pedal position)
Oil Temp
Air Temp
Accel (not sure on this because the needle bumps around a lot all the time)
Trans Temp
EGT

I like it, but like DOC wants, I wish I had more PIDs. Trans Temp, EGT, and Oil Pressure to be specific. Actually, I don't even see a gauge available for Oil Pressure, just Temperature, which is weird.

I also am using the Roll/Pitch Meter :)
