 Post subject: Anyone have a spare injector that they would sell?

I need one injector for one of my CRD's. Summit Racing has new ones for $425, I can get rebuilt ones for $390, or $125 for a used one at a salvage yard. Anyone have any better leads?

I'd go with the salvage yard one, that is a SCREAMING deal, even with $50 to a Bosch shop to test it for you.

I wouldn't sell my spares that cheap, but I also have a full set spare. Before replacing it, have you had a Bosch shop check it?

I was talking to a guy that used to work at Edge and he said when they were trying to develop performance parts for these it was a nightmare because each injector was coded to the ECU or something like that. Now I'm not sure if he meant there is an electronic code or, (and what I suspect) that each injectors flow rate is matched to the ECU so that it can compensate for any variance in flow from one to the next.

Where I'm going with this is if this is the case can you just swap injectors out randomly? Or do they need to be recoded to the ECU?

According to the FSM, each injector has a code on it that identifies the flow of that particular injector. I looked at mine and each one has a different code. I cannot seem to detect any pattern to the code. I am not sure if they can be swapped out without a scan tool, but I will try and let everyone know how it goes. Here is the text from the FSM:

INJECTOR CLASSIFICATION
NOTE: Fuel Injectors have different flow rates.
When ALL injectors are removed, re-enter all injector
six digit codes. If more than one injector is
replaced, remove the injector sticker on the front
of the timing cover.
Classified injectors can be recognized by the six digit
alpha-numeric code (2) on the magnetic head. The
code corresponds to the classification stage. The classification
stage may be checked against the fuel injector
identification sticker (1) on the front of the timing
cover. Number one cylinder will be the first six digits,
number two cylinder will be the second six digits, and
so on.
The classification of injectors describes the fuel flow
quantity characteristic of the injector. This will make it
possible in the future to match the engine software to
the tolerances of the injector within a more narrowly
graduated range. Classification can be clearly recognized,
and assigned only by means of a scan tool.
These general conditions equally apply if, as a result
of replacing an engine, carrying out repairs to the cylinder
head etc., the cylinder selective assignment of
the injectors or the engine control module assignment
may have changed. If proper attention is not paid to
the classification on these vehicles driveability and
smoking concerns could result.
If an injector is replaced, it is then necessary to assign
the classification code to the corresponding cylinder in
the engine control module with the appropriate scan
tool.
INJECTOR CLASSIFICATION PROCEDURE
1. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
2. Using the scan tool, select ENGINE then MISCELLANEOUS.
3. Select LEARN INJECTORS.
4. Using the up and down arrows, scroll to the appropriate injector.
5. Using the right and left arrows, set injector to proper classification code.
6. Once injectors are classified, cycle ignition to complete.

Interesting. Now with my ever seeking more power mind it begs to wonder what the correlation is from the codes to the flow rate and if someone was able to find a set of the highest flowing injectors if you could use that to make more power?

Does anyone have more information on this and how the flow rates correlate with the 6 digit numbers?
