OK guys, here is the very first steel prototype of the Monitor Lizard bumper. It isn't perfect, because I was in a hurry to finish it for the LOST Moab event, and had to cut every piece by hand since my manufacturer was unable to deliver in time, but you get the idea where it is going. Basically, what you see is what you get, except for the signals. I plan to incorporate the stock light assemblies, but due to lack of time, it was faster/easier to use the lights you see here.

Here are a few pictures of the R&D phase, with the original CAD design, then the poster board mockup, and then the first steel prototype all painted and mounted up.

Don't have any idea on price yet, but will be equal to or less than my rear bumper.

looks very good liz.....about how much does it weigh you think? just curious and another question about one of the pictures...the second from the bottom picture has a white circle at a weird angle behind the winch, is that one of the Hella lights uncovered or what exactly is that? Great looking though for a prototype.

What would be the downside (cost) of making it out of Alum.? The mounting points can be steel, with the bumper being alum.

Looks great! Very good job at fabbing!

Aluminum wouldn't hold up I don't think, we tried aluminum bumpers and cages on the off road buggies years ago one good lick and they were done. They fractured instead of deforming like a steel or chrome moly.

Very very nice! So aside from looking great, what's the functional advantages you've measured? Pickup any on angle-of-approach?

OH yeah, way better!!!

I e-mailed marty pics, he can post them, I am locked out of cardomain again!

We did Hell's Revenge today, and I was the only Lib to do Hell's Gate... Awesome!! MOAB ROCKS!

Most of the pics I sent him were from tip over challenge on Hell's Revenge. Others got much better pics, I only got a few that Walley took for me as he spotted me some.

For those of you not at Moab. You have got to see this in person! It looks awesome and...as you run the stocks, you worry about scraping or slamming it into the rocks at some of the climbs/descents. With this bumper, no issues and it is pretty darn solid.

I definitely want one.

In one of the pics it looks like there is a hole under the shackles. Maybe this is it. If there aren't any hi-lift points, you can probably use the hitch thinger. I'm guessing Marty has something planned to address this. Maybe he hasn't cut them yet?

ME LIKE. ME LIKE!!!

Can't wait to see the 05-06 version. I was wandering what’s the logic of keeping the receiver so short the locking pin has to be behind the bumper? I think I wound like it sticking out a little more and be able to fabricate a skid from the bumper to the engine skid. This would allow better protection as well as keep mud and other objects from up under the radiators.

It does look good though.

Jason

You would add on an additional skid plate to go from the bumper's hitch to the front suspension skid...connecting the two?
