New tires installed!

So I finally got myself some new tires. :pepper:

After much thought and debate over size, I decided to go with 245 75 R16's.

As for brand it was down to 2 : GY Wrangler DuraTracs or Kelly Safari TSR's.
I decided on the DuraTrac's..only because it had the "Snowflake" symbol whereas the Kelly's did not.
(here in Canada during winter you are allowed on some freeways only if you have tires with the Snowflake)
I have to say though..those Kelly's are AGRESSIVE looking..

You'll love the Duratracs
and why can't tire shops wash off the blue anymore, pet peeve of mine :banghead:

Oh and make sure you keep them rotated every 4000 or so
over 48,000 on mine so far and doing great

One of our local tire shops ask if you want it left on!
Guess its a status symbol to have new tires.

Thank for the tip tommud, did you mean 4000 miles or km?
I love the look of the tires, been raining pretty heavy here the last few days and they have not broken loose yet!
As for the blue, I don't really care too much....besides with the amount of rainfall we're suppose to receive over the next week, it will come off in no time

Thanks! Now all I need to do looks wise is buy some Spidertrax spacers and JBA's UCA's ..so that I can install the top plate and extra Isos in the rear.

I saw the Kellys online today for a local shop. They should be pretty comparable to the Duratracs since they are both Goodyear.

Nice tires! Although I see what you are saying about the Kellys. They do have a nice aggressive look. The Duratracs should be quieter on-road though.

Wishing I had bought bigger tires when I replaced mine. At the time I didn't realize that I could put bigger tires than stock on them (offroad newbie. :oops:

) and I ended up getting the stock 225 size tires. If I could go back and do it again I would have insisted on at least 235 size tires. Oh well. Maybe once I can afford a lift I can also afford new shoes.

I hate hate hate that stupid donut tire too. I understand the desire for that cleaner look, but the donut is just so useless and it's in a really hard to reach spot! I wish someone sold a proper swing-away rear tire rack that bolted onto the bumper so I could pick up a spare rim and full sized tire from a local junkyard and dump the donut.

I've often thought that the donut mounting spot would make a great location for a small "emergency" fuel-cell tank. Not so much a dual-tank, but a secondary fuel supply that could be pumped into the main tank via a small fuel pump. This is because a dual tank would require engine mods and computer reprogramming. An emergency tank would only require a tap into the main tank or the tank fill spout that its contents can be pumped through and into the main.

I have a 245/75-16 spare on a stock rim under there now, it fits fine.

as long it's under 31 inch tire, it will fit (jst barely), doesn't matter about the width. I went to 32 and no dice. Building my tire carrier, should finish up by this weekend.

Note: most people will say it's too low but i have my reasons

I'm one of the few people that like the 'hidden' spare. One reason I bought a KK over KJ. I do like you carrier letting you still have full view out rear window.

And I'm guessing that (plus the unobstructed rear view) was the reason it rides so low?

Nice setup. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Just a simple swinging rack to hang the spare on so that you can free up the area underneath for other uses. Or so that you can carry two spares.

I've been on a roll with mods this past month. next one will be building a storage container that can leverage the now empty spare tire cavity. gotta wait until the mods all come together.

Done:
1. lifted with jba silver lift.
2. new tires

TBD:
1. completed coax install for the cobra cb 75wxst but need to wait until the tire carrier is finalized so I can ground, mount and then tune the cb.

yes, rear view and able to pop the glass lift gate was the main consideration.

Also, you will note that the Kk doesn't readily have a good place to mount a carrier on the bumber unless you want to totally replace it. I had to mount horizontal base mounts (for the carrier) to the stock hitch mounts, which are mounted to the truck frame. If you go up too far, you then face some structural and stress issues, depending on the design and steel used of course (I would make it almost like a tank then just to have peace of mind) :banghead:

This way, less steel, less weight and more vis and easy access.

I was surprised at how aggressive those Kelly's were...I thought that the DuraTrac's were the most aggressive AT tire out there...turns out the Kelly's are almost identical and I would say even more aggressive..and also classified as AT's.
Honestly if I didn't have to deal with the snow up here, I would have picked the Kelly's!

Those Fierce Attitudes look bad @ss! Only thing is they are a Mud Terrain tire..if you have to deal with snow/ice..might not be as good as some AT's..not to mention i would assume a lot more road noise?

Speaking of that hole for the spare...I totally didn't think of changing the spare to the new size...or getting an extra wheel/tire that matches....oops... :banghead:

That's a great idea you have to put a secondary backup tank up there...

Those tires look badass. I was trying to decide between those and the ones i got now and went with the silent armors because of being able to air them down and retain the same height because of the stiffened side walls. But i probably should of gone with the duratracs because of the snow we get here and the fact that im a firefighter/emt and sometimes have to go POV to calls. What load rating did you get? Im just looking at discount tire and they have a c1 and e1 and there's a $47 difference between the two for each tire. Just wanna get my bearings straight for the next time I get some new shoes.
