I've owned this jeep long enough to fill it up twice. Both times and at different gas stations, gas has spewed from the filler neck. This time I at least heard the click of the pump nozzle shutting off, then freakin old faithful from the neck and gas ran all down the side of the jeep. What gives?!

*EDIT* Mods, if this should be in the KK Tech section please move it. My bad.

The ethanol swelled the check valve ball in the filler neck not allowing air to escape properly when filling.Common problem on all newer vehicles with the mandated safety junk on the gas tanks.

If you fill up SLOWLY, I have found it to cut the issue to about a third of the time.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin about this. All the KK TSB's are listed in a sticky in the KK Tech section, but here's the link to the gas tank TSB:

Happens to me too. The fill slowly trick works sometimes.

Buy gasoline with very little to no ethanol.

This just happened to be the other day in my 06 KJ. I was pretty annoyed by it. I just got the Jeep and it was my first full fill up since it came filled from the dealer.

When I drove from NM to KS, I found 3 gas stations that didn't have ethanol or less than 2%. If you do a little research, then you might be surprised.

On an empty tank, fill to about 16gal, then slow it down a bunch. Has worked for me everytime now since those first two gasplosions.

My 07 has done this from the first fill up. the only way Ive found to combat it is to fill as fast as possible until you hear a difference in how the fuel is moving in the filler neck and then slow way down. Royal pain in the stupid when its below 0 and the wind is blowing.
