Well, this pretty much seals the deal. I'm leaving mine alone. I have skids on everything but the fuel tank and the tank was the last one to do. I don't beat the bottom to death but nice to know I have protection and with the low rider stance the KK has, it's nice to know when I curb climb at the mall, I'm not going to rip out my transfer case. After adding the 3 other skids, rock rails from JCR offroad Image, rear hidden hitch w/3ball-1hook receiver, I've added a little extra pounds to the old girl so she's sagging a bit lower then off the show room floor. Getting a 2inch lift installed for xmas (the skid was going to be a xmas gift too). But after seeing the PITA this could be and without adding that much more protection for what little wheeling I do (mostly mud or soft stuff), I'll redirect my 200+ bucks towards bumping up my wheels to 17/18 inch next year.

I'd much rather have a gas tank skid even if it doesn't do that much and possibly hitting a rock etc than going to 17-18 inch rims, no even a good choice

I agree with Cherrie. It's sort of a pain, but not that bad and you can do it in a few hours. I followed the instructions in this writeup and had no problems. I used the OEM jack from the Jeep to help lift the new gas tank skid into place in order to bolt it in, so I didn't need a second person's help. I am much less worried now if I hear a "clunk" on the trail because I have all the skids installed.

Nice job on the skid plate. Wow that's cheap gas. In Cali its over $4.00, paid $4.55 Two weeks ago its down to $4.23 last week.

I still need to install mine, it's been sitting in my uncle's garage since last winter. I just can't seem to coordinate an empty tank with the time to do it. I'm not worried about the weight of the empty tank on the lines, it's only plastic. Even with w few gallons of gas it probably doesn't weigh more than 15 pounds. :JEEPIN:

It took a while for me to coordinate near empty fuel tank and nice weather (I don't have a garage) when I did mine several months ago. Be patient and get it done.

Strange that the support looks so much like the skid plate. I wonder if you could just install one right over the other?

It's actually one piece. There's no known way to attach the skid portion to the bracket. If you look up the factory cut sheet on it, you'll see what I mean.

I see what you mean. Those bolts sticking out the side would be a problem, and since they are both the same size they wouldn't fit inside each other anyway.

What are you going to do with the old tank support?

I haven't given it any thought. Maybe hang onto it in case I put it back to stock. I don't know.
