So today I was unloading my kids stuff out of the back of my Libby. And the rear window decided to not shut. It's like the latch on the tailgate is not catching the window. I can physically close the latch by hand. And the remote and door handle will release the the latch. But no matter what I do I can't get it to catch the window. We tried pushing on the glass above the latch and it will not catch. It's a 03 and I found out there was a TSB 23-016-01 about this from MOPAR. But I can't find it anywhere online. Any ideas?
Thanks,

The flip-up glass will not latch if certain conditions are not met ie. tailgate completely closed.

You need to check the circuit diagram for that area...you will see there are a few switches involved ie. tailgate lock motor ajar switch, flip-up glass release switch and tailgate flip-up ajar switch. You can use a Multimeter to test the switches for correct operation or you can short out/disconnect the switches one at a time to see if anything changes.

There is a known problem of water getting into the tailgate latch handle and destroying the switch inside there.

If you need the diagrams you can download the complete 2003 KJ Service Manual which includes the circuit diagrams..about 63 Mb in size.

Here is the link: http://www.colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. All of the switches were working fine. If you manually worked the latch for the window it would snap closed and realease with the door or remote. That's what made no sense to me.

I pulled the cover off of the inside of the door and it looks like the sheetmetal where the latch is mounted to is bent. I guess the latch must of closed on itself and when I closed the glass. Then went I tried to shut it the second time it bent the tailgate. Sometimes the latch on mine will close on itself and has to be reopened with the remote??? :? I don't know why though. But I put two big body washers under the back of the switch assembly and it was the correct thickness to lift the latch back up to the correct height. Everything is good to go now. So I guess the moral of the story is if the glass doesn't shut properly make sure the latch is not shut. :D

For others that stumble on this and don't have bent metal; the switch is a common problem going back as far as the 2002 models. There is an old post out there somewhere, probably on the CRD site, that I've summarized at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=65100&p=717861&hilit=deteant#p717861

I also have a copy of the text and illustrations from a TSB about this issue for the 02 model which might be helpful. If anyone needs a copy just drop me an email or a PM with your email address.
