Something was changed on the pillar and so the available pods are for 02 through 05.
But you were able to make it fit so so now you know the difference.

I know of one difference. Side air bags were an option in the Limiteds. I have a little more work to do on it to tidy it up. I want to also try and get pics of the rollers and cam.

Henry didn't like where I wanted it, so it is on the firewall side of the intake elbow. Nice flat spot where he drilled and tapped.

5V GPs worked great last night. Temp was in the upper 20s. But, I am going to replace the Battery as a precaution. With my line of work, I can't afford to be stuck in some desolate rail yard with no one around.

Here is a question. I used this site (http://www.auerbach.ca/kj/racor/) for my Racor install guide. He says that Racor does not recommend Teflon Tape. I think I am sucking air into the fittings while I am sitting. Would something like one of these work??? http://www.permatex.com/products/produc ... d-sealants

The Permatex high temp or PTFE stuff both say ok to use with diesel fuel. Just don't use a lot and apply it only to the male side of the threads. If you feel you need to apply some to the female side only a tiny bit on the outermost threads as you don't want to push excess into the system.

Your signature indicates you have a "universal lift pump" :SOMBRERO:
If so it should be BEFORE the fuel filter head. That would eliminate air leaks :BINGO:

I had requests to show where my boost gauge is attached. This is the best I can do at squeezing my cell phone in to snap a picture.

I didn't drill and tap it. This may be an easier location IF you are not pulling the whole valve cover/intake off.

Works fine if you have the intake elbow off to swap glow plugs or get at EGR. An alternative is apparently on top of the engine. Remove plastic engine cover; draw an imaginary line between the oil fill tube and the oil dip stick; about 1/2 way between there is an obvious threaded hole that can have its base drilled thru into the intake and used (see viewtopic.php?f=5&t=69804).

I plan to do glow plugs so now will have to decide which place to use.

Let everyone catch everyone up as to my story. I bought my CRD in April with 74K on the odometer. It is now at 89K. I do not know how the previous owner (PO) took care of her. But, I am finding that out.

I had a previous thread of a failing turbo. It had looked like something went through it. I had broken vanes. I will try and add a link later when I am on the computer. So, I went to idparts and picked up a turbo and a set of glow plugs.

Changing out my glow plugs, I pulled #1 and #2 and they both had a sizable amount of the tip missing. Not good. Things were going smoother until #4. I snapped it with IMHO, was not a lot of torque. So, a call went into my long time friend Henry from Diesel Performance Plus in Westport, MA. I know he has done TB changes. I know this would be the deepest he has gotten into this motor, but I know he is good and has my trust.

Well, he got the head off. He said that #1 and #2 had damage from the glow plug tips. But the damage is okay. I guess the PO was lucky there. But a few people so far think that my turbo damage resulted from the broken glow plugs.

He also told me that #4 was in there due to lack or maintenance and hanging them on a periodic basis. He also said that his engine suffered from lack of maintenance from the PO.

But we are not done. He has to get back and inspect my lifters again, but I have several that need replacing. I guess it will be another trip to Idparts again for me for a set.

Our dilemma now is finding out which head gasket to use. There are 3 different thicknesses. He finally found someone to help. I don't know the exact method, but he has to measure the piston at TDC.

Based on my experiences, take care of your CRD. Do the maintenance on it. Do it right.

Not to sidetrack your thread but I like your picture. I know that locomotive and have worked on it.

I need a new picture when I can. Probably road power.
