Head gaskets from the dealer. Make sure you know which thickness as there are 3. If you don't know, then piston protrusion needs to be measured. My mechanic took a few hours to fabricate tools and do the measuring.

What caused the rocker wear? Is this normal for most of our engines once they hit higher miles? Did you have the EGR shut off, or is that soot due to normal EGR function?

I've just not seen too many pictures of the inside of our engine, and I'm curious to know the history.

This is the extra motor I acquired, the previous owner ran Mobil 1, bone stock egr was still functioning. When I pulled the head, everything was gummed up badly. this engine has fewer than 75000 miles. Oil was changed every 3000 miles. Not good....

He called several dealers and no one can tell him how to determine gasket thicknesses by the notches or as you say holes. Is there something somewhere ib writing to know for sure.

Now I am a bit upset that it was THAT easy to find. I don't know what manual he uses, but he said is some software he uses for job estimating job costs. He used the book in front of me to estimate how long it will be to pull the head.

1.32
No Holes or Notches

1.42
1 Hole or Notch

1.52
2 Holes or Notches

And I am kicking myself in the booty for not looking at the FSM or putting a copy of it onto a flash drive for him.
