Hi Folks,
I replaced the ceramic glow plugs with the Etechno plugs last night.
Replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the EGR and intake elbow again too.

The ceramic glow plugs were all in really good condition, I just did not
trust them. The Jeep has just under 70,000 miles.

If anyone wants the old glow plugs, send me a PM. I don't know if they
are worth anything, but I have all four and they were working fine when
I removed them.

Next is replacing the fuel filter head with the upgraded version, mine is starting to seep from around
the wire connections.

John

Send them to the dump. Don't have a guilty conscience if one breaks and ruins someone's motor.

I agree with ChooChoo, get rid of them. I know of 2 people on here that have lost a turbo to a broken glow plug tip and one that lost a valve to one. Not worth the risk, you did the right thing removing them prior to having ground/fault error codes with them like most of us.

I just ordered the Etechno GX3123 glow plugs from DGF in Europe. Had one of my originals finally bite the dust, and so decided to order up 4 glow plugs and replace them all.

First, had gone into Jeep to confirm the engine code, then they wanted $1800 to change out the glow plugs to the new 5v , replace contoller, and flash ECM. I told them to take a long walk off a short pier. Got the Etchno plugs for $198 with express shipping. Might have searched and gotten a better price I suppose, but after the sticker shock of what Jeep wanted it seemed like chump change.

Pardon the pun but that's priceless. The OEM 5v kit with controller lists for like $200, can be had for ca. $125 and a dealer ECU flash, over priced as it is, typically only runs ca. $100 including labor. Must be a heck of a shop rate to charge $1,500 for maybe 3hrs of work swapping the plugs.

That is probably just their insurance policy for when the have to pull the head when they break a glow plug extracting them.

That could be. Well, at least I will not have to reflash the ECM with these plugs and have to pay another $50 to GDE to get another tune that will work. So there is some positives.

I did do some searching and found the 5v upgrade kit at $175. I printed it out and am going into dealer and raise a stink. Will let everyone know later if I got arrested for something.
