Well today has been interesting. Was waiting on a quote from ATS finally got it then my Wife called and said the Jeep wont go. (how ironic) Had my buddy stop and look at it for me since she is in Cheyenne WY, and I'm in Stanley ND. Burnt smell to trans fluid. Stock trans took a *&^% even with a suncoast converter. Fully built 545rfe is what is going in next from ATS. Their triple disk converter and deep pan with built trans. Hopefully have it all back in by a local shop next Thursday. 5 year 500000 mile warranty. If it can withstand a 700hp hemi dodge then I'm pretty sure my 165hp diesel won't hurt it. Plus gives me room for my GT2560R turbo system that I'm still developing.

Curious, since I'm putting in a "new" used tranny in CRuD, how much does this type of build cost? Is your suncoast TC bad?
I wonder what happened?

Could it be something as simple as a split seam on the pan filter which has happened to me an others?

Its hard to tell from 700 miles away. But with a burnt smell to fluid that would be more than a filter. Could be converter most likely or combo of bad pump and converter.

I'm a dealer for ATS but cost through them is 3564 for trans, deep pan, and converter and purple paint. 3900 installed by ATS. Really good warrenty first year labor and parts but 5 year 500000 is really good.

The front pump most likely shot craps, clutch discs need pressure to engage properly.
Another item overlooked are the fine steel particles that love magnets, especially the spools that are actuated by the solenoids in the shift valves. Since you are going to drop a load of money into your 545RFE, you should consider the extra $20 to install a Magnifine filter that takes out the fine steel particles.
Before I installed my Magnifine, I looked at it as cheap insurance. After a few months the shifting improved and was smoother. My conclusion was I had steel particles getting into my spool valves that were working their way out and got caught by the Magnifine.

Does the ATS have the correct stator to match the CRD engine like Suncoast, or is it a Hemi?

Where do you get one and how do you Install that Magnifine Filter?

They were building the converter with a Stator design much like the ones in Duramax and Cummins converters. Its not a Hemi Unit. It will be made for the Diesel in the Lib so says the Salesman.

The Liberty in Diesel World Magazine uses an ATS converter. You have to call since it isn't listed on their site.

I spliced mine in the rubber line as the fluid goes back to the trans with a couple hose clamps. Someone else may want to verify, but I think the return (cool) side from the oil cooler is the drivers side.
Type Magnifine into Google and go for the one with 3/8" fittings and the best price. I put one on my Power Steering return line too.
Ford has used Magnifine filters on their factory rebuilt transmissions in the past and may still do. Cuts down on Warranty claims.

Check out these posts on other forums regarding ATS. I spent 5 weeks in 2010 at Fort Walton Beach, FL and was impressed with Suncoast. For me I plan on sticking with Suncoast because they blow up transmissions on their dime during the Development stage, the way it should be. Ron and Charlie personally showed me components they tested to the failure point and beefed them up so they will not fail again. If the posts in the links below have any truth, ATS experiments on your dime, not theirs.

Thank you for those. Those are some nasty horror stories. Being a dealer for ATS and living an hour and a half away I will test them to the fullest. Because I am one mostly about customer service and a product. If they don't stand by it and treat me poorly personally I will destroy there name and reputation, with Premier Performance Inc backing me. I hope it doesn't come to that.
