 Post subject: Air in the fuel

Everything in this forum is happening or happened to me. This week en I floored it and got a P0093. Changed the fuel filter and can't get it to prime. Poured fuel into the filter, tried bleeding it like the guy on YouTube, Will vacuum test the fuel head this evening or not. Why waste the effort. Ordered the new version of the fuel head and wiring fix. Gotta love this truck to own it. :banghead:

06 Sport 86K miles, ecotune, crapped out EGR, Fomoco valve, 7 volt glow plugs, steiger windows all around, several interior door handle repairs, elephant hose mod, and now fuel filter replacement.

If the original fuel head heater has burned a hole in the connector, no amount of priming will get rid of the leak. The newer fuel head fixes that problem quite well, I used to have to prime the filter every fillup, now it is not necessary even though I still check it.

You are correct, the original factory configuration has some issues, but once they are addressed the little tractor is a wonderful reliable machine.

You can say that twice. You gotta either love it, have a lot of time on your hands, consider it a hobby, or be trapped by your car loan.

God bless everyone who has been able to just buy this thing, put fuel and oil in it and drive it like its just any other vehicle. But my opinion is that's a bunch of people living on Pluto. This thing isn't a vehicle, it's a measuring device for a person's resolve.

Best of luck with the 2nd gen head. It was the first fix that I had done, and it helped a lot.

Turns out the system is tight. The fuel filter head and supply line passed an overnight vacuum test. Problem is that once I changed the filter I could not prime because the primer is not working. :furious: Will go ahead with new filter head on order.

My motor mounts are rattling, afraid to check the ball joints; taking it easy running up hill with original torque converter, instrument lights going crazy intermittently with ABS wheel sensor acting out. My great little POS Truck. What I like most about it is its paid for. :JEEPIN:

I also had this problem. For sure put the 2nd gen fuel filter head on. You can also place a temp clear line at the outlet of the filter (two inches) to the rubber hose to look for air. Then remove at the next fuel filter change.

If you install a lift pump you will never have to worry about the hand primer pump again.

I replaced the ball joints myself. Total PITA!
I'd rather do 5 consecutive timing belts than one set of ball joints.

May I propose that IF there's no air build up in the original fuel head it just might not overheat?

My "air in the fuel" problem became very obvious the day I bought the Liberty new in May of 2006. I could have been killed one time after filling it up when I tried to pull out on a busy 4 lane road and it didn't go :shock:
Of course the dealer "could not duplicate" so the very first mod I did was install a in tank lift pump and I have the original fuel head :SOMBRERO:
Everything is already there but a few feet of wire and a pump :juggle:
The 05 and 06 Liberty CRD's came with two "birth defects". One was the Torque Converter and the second was the lack of a lift pump :dizzy:
Nothing new here at all :furious:

I'm not sure about everyone but most people have no more air in fuel issues since installing the 2nd gen fuel head. All my fuel issues have gone away.

The original fuel head lets in air due to the fuel heater plug overheats and cracks. I would tell anyone with a orginal to install a new 2nd gen reguardless if you plan on installing a lift pump. I have seen several people have disconnected the fuel heater plug and filled it full of sealant. But on cold days you would not have your fuel heated. Your Choice.
