nope haven't had that issue Rick, I didn't have to replace the serp tensioner or the alternator pulley though.

Sorry for your adventure in CRD ownership continuing

rixram - it's certainly possible for a new serp belt tensioner to fail if unlikely. Makes me wonder about your alternator clutch pulley; if that's bad it causes "whiplash" in the belt that bounces the tensioner severely and can easily destroy the tensioner.

I bought the replacement alternator doohickey, but am not sure how to install it. Yes, I have the alan wrench for the end, but no way to really hold the pulley in place to unthread it...

There is a special Miller tool that you may be able to borrow or some have reported success with an impact driver and appropriate size allen head but you would have to look on the forum for the how to.

Captain,

You need an allen socket with a hole in the center of it, and a 1/4" 10mm deep socket on an extension to slide inside the hole to reach the bolt that holds the decoupler in place.

A european member once suggested to use one of those wrenches that come as part of a Mercedes automobile repair kit in a bag.

Not sure how to explain it but it was the long socket with a hole in the center of it and 2 metric wrench sizes on each end. Probably get it at a junk yard.

Then you slide a deep 1/4" 10"mm socket on an extension inside the hole to reach the alternator shaft bolt.

You turn one socket one way and the other socket the other way.

I tried to find the mercedes tool online but could not locate it and I don't know what the correct name of it is.

I just know that the tool was part of an emergency repair bag tool kit in european cars. It was stashed in the weel of the spare tire.

Best I could do for an explanation. I tried to get mine off but gave up and went with a new altenator with a lifetime warranty from Advanced auto. Mine felt like it was welded on and I didn't have an impact wrench to use.

A couple of quick raps with a good impact will remove it no problem.

Thanks fellas!

ID Parts were very nice, and shipped me a new tensioner and belt free of charge.

Now if I can install that pulley, I'd not have to worry...for a while...
