I was wondering what you guys get for fuel mileage, i'm getting about 21 mixed city/highway and no more than 25 on straight highway trips, i tend to drive between 70 and 75 on the highway. i have stock tires and gears and supposedly have the eco tune, any way to verrify that it wasn't re flashed by the dealer at some point?

That's a bit low but ambient temp, winter fuel, hilly terrain, and driving over 70 mph can cut into mpg. Typical GDE tune "signature" is a flair to ca 1,000 rpm or a bit less before dropping back to idle which is different from the stock ECU tune. If it does that your ECU was not reflashed. If on the other hand you are not sure whether the vehicle came with the GDE tune send Keith an email with your VIN and he can tell you.

I can get 29MPG in the summer for my 22 mile one way trip to work (Most at 70MPH). But in the winter with winterized diesel and the cold I normally get around 25MPG. I haven't been driving it as much with lately so I would not be able to tell you if the GDE TCM has increased my mileage on top of those numbers. My wife started working from home and the Jetta gets upper 40s so I have been driving it.

I notice when I go to a low cost fuel station, my mileage takes a hit. The 10 cents I save isn't worth the lower fuel mileage.

Can you explain the "signature" flair better for me? I often wonder if mine has been reprogrammed by the dealer without me knowing. I doubt it but it will put me at ease.

Thanks

IIRC if you have a GDE tune then when you first crank up on a cold engine the initial rpm reading will be 900-1,000 rpm and then it will almost immediately drop to ca. 750 rpm. IIRC an untuned OEM ECU on crank up will show an initial rpm of just ca. 750 rpm without that initial flair/bump.

Another thing, have you checked the accuracy of your odometer, which can differ from the speedometer in the opposite direction. I use an android app to verify my odometer accuracy, and double check it against mile markers over a 20 mile distance on a highway.

BTW I don't know if my CRD is the norm or not, but both GPS and mile markers have proven that my speedo is right on and my odometer reads 2.5% low. So I have to add 2.5% miles per each tank.

That does seem low, but then driving habits can make as much as 1/3 difference, that is, if driven for the best mpg possible gets 30 mpg, driven for the worst possible will get around 20. Not criticizing, just sayin' ….

I almost never go 70-75. Never if I want to get good mileage. I have the ecotune, and my best so far has been 34.75 mpg, my average around town and some on the highway in this cold weather is around 26.

Things that will kill your mileage: driving over 55-60 mph, making short trips (less than 25 miles or so), waiting on the light to turn red, stepping on the brakes.

I'll check that flair up next time i start it, i think it does that but i want to be sure. It does have a good amount of power but i just want to be sure.

I don't think cheap fuel could be the issue, i usually buy from hess or sunoco which ever has a more competitive price. the winter fuel on the other hand usually dishes out a 5-8mpg hit on my cummins but i didn't notice the change until my last fill up with the merky fuel.

I can't rule out the fuel filter so i'm going to change that, its been 5 months now since i got it and haven't changed it yet.

I also can't say it isn't my driving style on the daily basis but on longer trips i usually set the cruise to 70 and try to stick behind a bigger vehicle.

on a side not i went out and played in the snow and let me say this thing amazed me, handled the white stuff way better than i thought it would. before i knew it i was climbing the side of a dirt mound and made it to the top of the 25' mound before i lost traction and had to back down, just wasn't enough to make it over the crest. had fun and didn't damage anything in the process.

I have had the ECO tune since 2010 (summer) and get 22.4 around town and 30.4 @70 on the highway - long trip. I noticed that my all terrian tires dropped the milage by 2.5 mpg over the stock (junk) tires.

I just upped to the Full Torque ECO tune , I have not noticed any hanges to the milage. The start-up the engine reve to 1000 and then drops back to 750.

I have the signature flair, but have not confirmed the GDE tune. If so I have a piggyback on it and must say WOW! 21MPG in stop and go pure city driving is great. I sure don't baby her either.

I have the eco and hot tune. 2 1/2 inch lift and 245/75r16 tires and if I drive the speed limit on the highway using cruise control 75mph I will get about 22-23 mpg. If I stay at 60 the best I've ever gotten was 27 mpg. These numbers were all done while using the eco tune. To be honest I don't think my mileage got any better after getting the eco tune. It definitely got worse when using the hot tune though. Anyway I seriously doubt people get 30 mpg or more in this rig. My fiances 12 Focus is averaging 32.9 and that's freeway with ac on. If there is people who indeed get 30+ mpg in there jeep then I personally believe either there math is not correct or they have a freak of a jeep.

At this time of year with the FT ECO I can average 29mpg on my daily commute versus about 26.5mpg without. This is about 50% highway, 40% rural and 10% city with no AC. Winter is a killer yielding ~22mpg (tuned) versus ~20mpg (no tune) for the same commute.

I don't have a problem believing that I could consistently achieve low 30's for a few weeks in the summer with exclusively highway driving and limiting the speed to the 65-70mph range. I'm talking road trip without the family or any luggage here. The reality is very few of us drive like this.

Since installing the tune in August last year I figure I've saved about $240 in fuel, the cost of an FCV and my oil is no longer black as the ace of spades after 6000 miles. Cleaner oil = less soot = less wear.
