I have white and blue smoke.
My engine overheated bad (drove over a mountain pass for 30 min with engine hot maxed out gauge) over a couple of months and it started to blow white smoke bad. After doing a flush and putting new fluid little by little it started to stop consuming radiator fluid and now is not burning water. Just recently it started to spew a lot of oil into the pvc collector and blowing gray blue smoke. It blows smoke on idle, and when turbo spooling under 1850 rpms. After that it clears up and goes away, but comes back when at idle.
Ive also notices that theres a lot of blow bye. If I move the dipstick out about a 1/8 of an inch it start to push itself out then spits out oil and gray oily mist.
This is the history. I bought it and the day I buy it I get into a wreck (truck driver drops driveshaft in the middle of the road)that brakes the front diff and breaks the pan. It idled for 30 secs with out any oil since it dumped it on the road. I bought it with 145k it had a new water pump belt and timing job done. Ive been afraid that fragment might have done some damage with might be what im seeing now. Running with out oil might explain why the upgraded turbo doesn't seem to have added power.
My question :
Some blow by is normal on diesel but how do you know what is too much? Is a compression test the only way to figure the wear of the engines bottom? And if I check map pressure at idle it should tell me the wear of the cams or rockers right?
