From what my daughter has described, her CRD stalled while coming to a stop, she also said it made a vibrating sound.
The vehicle was cold, as she had just left her job. She shifted to park, restarted the engine fine, and came home.
She had a simiular incident last year in the same shopping mall, that time, she had to stand on the brakes to avoid hitting the car in front of her.
I,m thinking the TC is not unlocking, but how could this happen driving at low speeds in a shopping mall? :dizzy:

This is a drain back issue with the front pump inside the transmission. Sometimes solved by replacing the spin on filter in the tranny. Sometimes solved by putting a shift kit in the front pump. Sometimes solved by replacing the front pump. Sometimes it is never solved, but this can be avoided by putting the tranny in neutral and holding 1500 RPM from about 20 seconds before you drive when the engine is cold.

If it stalled within say 200' of being 1st started up after sitting for say 6 hrs or more and the stall was associated with a rather violent vibration then it's probably the drain back issue as that's what happened to me several times before I started doing the crank up and hold high idle in neutral for 10-15 seconds before driving off. That stall may or may not throw a CEL which goes away after 5 or so good starts.

I'd suggest a tranny service with new Mopar or Wix filters and, of course ATF+4, although as some note the issue may not go away until the front pump is replaced. While in there make sure the side plate on the valve body is fully bolted down and not cracked, replace with Transgo kit if it has problems.

My drain back problem disappeared with installation of the Suncoast TC and Transgo kit.

I had the same ussue and could not figure it out for quite a while. I changed transmission filters and fluid twice, but it did not solve the problem... Finally I got my jeep on the lift and opened up the pan. It turned out that the flat filter was installed incorrectly (both times) - the filter insertion coupling has to be literally hummered down to fit right. Before that we just inserted it with hand and bolted it down. That was a big mistake. Once we inserted filter in hummered down coupling all the issues disappeared. Hope it will help.
