CRD's in the shop and tech wants to replace the drive belt. Says the belt costs $157. Quick search on line shows after market belts for $25. What's up? Total rip off or is the Mopar belt some sort of super dooper belt?

The OEM belt at a Dealership is $157. You can get a good Gates or Good Year belt online for about $40.

It's all about if you want to pay for the convenience of them doing it and the warranty they provide on their work.

yikes, the $157 doesn't include installation. I don't mind paying a bit of a premium, but 300% is a little excessive.

Assuming we're talking accessory drive belt (and not timing), then the job is not hard to do yourself with some basic tools. Also, if that belt goes, you'll be in need of immediate replacement for useful things like water circulation and electricity, but it won't DAMAGE the jeep, you just won't be able to really run it until repaired. Again, depends on what you're willing to pay and how much it matters to you that the shop perform the work.
