I just took delivery of my 06 Sport CRD last Monday. We got some heavy rain last night, and I discovered I have a nice leak somewhere in the roof of my new KJ. The headliner is quite soggy in the area right in front of the rear (cargo area) passenger side window, and the carpet is wet beneath it with water on the plastic interior under the window (its been dripping). My current thoughts are that it is a bad seal somewhere where the roof rack is attached to the roof. I have the factory satellite radio with its own hole in the middle of the rear roof, but the fact that this is by the side makes me think its the roof rack.

Anyone else have this problem? How likely am I to get the dealer to fix it properly? If not, what can *I* do to fix it properly?

I'm really bummed about this because I've been loving the new Liberty (traded in a Rubi for gas mileage) all week long. I also know that roof leaks are generally something that's really hard to get fixed right.

It might be the door gasket. I've never seen any complaints of leaks caused by roof racks.

Do you have a sunroof? My KJ leaks in the right rear due to the drain hose being jacked up somewhere. Dealer told me the warranty for that was 3/36 (which is loooong gone). Regardless of what it is, since you just got it, it should be repaired under warranty and you should get a rental car while it's out. Good luck.

Go to your dealer NOW and insist on a brand new Liberty! Once it starts to leak there is NO permanent solution and you will only have more problems down the road because things loosen up as you drive it over time. This incident will leave you very sour and with a bad impression of Jeep quality. This is obviously a serious manufacturing flaw, and don't take no for an answer.

I had a Leak when I got my Renegade on the drivers side under the front door. The entire carpet was soaked. I ran my hand around the whole door seal and in spots the seal was not all the way on. Once I pushed it all on, no more leak. If your roofliner is wet that maybe another story.

Well, now I'm not so sure about it. We've received torrential rain the last few days here, and the leak has not shown its face again after it initially dried. I went through one of those high-pressure laser-blast car washes the day before I found the leak, so I'm now suspecting that may have been what caused it. Nonetheless, there is something wrong. I first thought it was from the roof, but after reading the posts here I think it could also be from the seal at the top of the cargo-area window. I'll have to get out there with the garden hose and good spray nozzle and see if I can find the leak again. The dealer will tell me I'm crazy if I say "it leaked once, but I can never duplicate it again".

I have an 05 liberty I purchased last year brandy new it has satellite radio as well. I noticed back in Sept of this year. that it had a leak only because it rained the night before and the next morning I was loading up luggage in the back. In the course of loading up my luggage, my hand came in contact with the carpet in the cargo area and I noticed it was wet. I looked up and saw a small wet spot on the head liner in the back above the 1/2 glass. When I touched it, it was like squeezing a sponge, water came pouring out. I took it to the dealer and they promised me that they fixed it. Stupid me I took their word for it. It rained on friday this past week and on sunday I noticed that it smelled a little funky. The glass in the cargo compartment looked to have condensation on it and there was minor condensation on the front windshield. I checked it out and found that the headliner was wet in the same spot it was before. Now I am very concerened about driving around a vehicle laced with mold. I have made an appointment to take it back to the dealer tomorrow and I am going to askt that they replace the headliner and the carpet in the back. Would that be asking too much? I only have 15,300 miles on it. What are my options?

Thanks,
Shawn

No, it's not asking too much to have them fix a leaking roof. Take it in and tell them to fix it.

No, its not asking to much. If they try to screw with you, stick this in their face..

Here's another one.

We have a 2005 Jeep Liberty with sunroof. We've had it into the dealer 7 times to fix the same leak you describe. They have reinstalled the side rear windows. They have remove, recaulked and reinstalled the roof racks (twice). Still leaking. Finally, the dealer gave up and offered us a new Jeep Liberty. My wife picked it up late yesterday, drove it home and parked it. Of course it rained last night and believe it or not, the new one leaks in the same place. But this one leaks on both sides.

They have never seen this problem and they even walked around to check every Liberty on their lot. None of them leak. We're two for two and they think we are somehow causing this.

Everyone is stumped.

Did the 2 that you guys have/had contain sunroofs? If so it might have something to do with that. How many on the lot had sunroofs???

Yeah, both had sunroofs. I just spoke to the service manager and he claims that the sunroof drains along the front A post so that would seem to rule out the sunroof. But so far, it's the only explanation I've heard that makes any sense.

Did they both have satellite radio antennas on the rear part of the roof??

No, no sat antennas on either one. Nothing infringing on the roof except the standard roof racks and the sunroof.
