I blew out one of my stainless steel brake lines. Apparently it had been rubbing against my tire and the tire wore through it. Fortunately no one was in front of me when it blew. I was at a stop light and I was in a residential area so I wasn't going fast. The brakes lost alot of their stopping power ( about 80%) and I was gushing brake fluid. I wrapped the line in duct tape in a futile attempt to keep pressure on and limped to a brake shop using 1st gear and my e-brake to help stop me.

If y'all have a Just Brakes in your area I highly recommend them for your brake work. They put a line clap on (about $25 for the tool) and didn't charge me a dime for any of their time. They are even trusting me to bring it back to them, which I will as soon as I get this resolved. The gave me the address of a local brake shop that fabricates brake line and I'm going to try to get to them tomorrow and see if they can help me. I was planning on going wheeling with a local jeep club next weekend, hopefully I'll have this resolved by then.
Moral of the story... When you install the extended brake lines, be sure they are not rubbing on the tire! We should have done that but it just slipped our mind. I don't know if it had been rubbing the whole time or not,but the Lord protected me and my wife. If this had happened on the highway then it might have turned out really bad. If it had happened on the trail, then it would have been a really big pain and possible dangerous depending on the situation.

Glad you and your wife are ok, JeepNCrowd. Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to check where the brake lines are sitting after I get my lift installed.

Thanks. The passenger side has plenty of space, but the drivers side is tight. But, of course, it is a good idea to check both.

Make sure you clean that brake fluid off really well, it will eat right right through paint.

I already did but it had already made it through some of the paint below. I've got to take some of my trusty spray paint under there to cover up the exposed areas.

Ok so I got the problem solved. I got a new brake line fabricated and installed for about $58 at a local brake shop. Just Brakes flushed the brake lines for free. My new brake line is about 1" inch longer than the JBA line. I had it made a little longer because the JBA lines had very little play and full drop, and I wanted some extra safety factor. I tied them back to the body with some week zip ties that will snap if the line needs to be extended to max. However I tested it at full drop and even with the zip ties there is plenty of play.
Image

While the Jeep was on the lift and the axle was at full drop I noticed that the rear diff breather popped off and had a lot of space between the tube and the nipple. On the picture you can see the breather tube on top and the nipple on the bottom.
Image

The extended sway bar rods (or whatever they're called) allow the rear diff to drop quite a bit more than stock. So to prevent the breather tube from popping off and possibly allowing dirt/water/mud into the diff I went to an auto part store and a hardware store and bought 1 foot of 5/8ths rubber hose, tube clamps, and a brass/copper connector.
Image

There is now plenty of play in that breather tube at full drop .
Image

I don't know if any body else had any problems with the breather and the 4" but I would recommend checking to see if the breather has enough play at full drop.
We also noticed that the passenger side rear control arm(?) rubs the tire at full drop. To fix this they recommended using offset wheels or spacers to push the tire out. I could adjust the track bar but then my thrust angle will be off and the vehicle may pull to one side. Any suggestions?

Had my diff breather tube fall off when i was installing my lift and did'nt notice until a couple weeks later! When i changed the fluid everything was still pretty clean though.
When i extended my breather up to the gas fill tube i made sure to leave more slack like you just did. Not sure if you noticed how low the end if the breather sits but it may be something you'd want to address.

Did the traction/stability/ABS kill switch. I basically followed the how-to, with one minor change. I wanted a lighted switch to come on when all the stuff was off. So that took a few mins more of figuring out the wiring, but I got it and it works great! Just in time for a light dusting of snow! :JEEPIN:

That beach looks beautiful. Reminds me of Jurassic Park.

Started making my roof rack/basket.

Cross bars are tacked up, just need to finish welding those, and make the top ring, then mount it. Oh and paint. I'm going to paint it with black POR-15. That stuff is ROWDY!! It dries ridiculously hard.

Sweet looking rack. Is that Galvi? That is what I made mine out of.
If it is Galvi use lots of ventilation and drink lots of milk to flush the toxins out of your system. :dead:
I used a hole saw to cut the round shape in your second Pic. Almost no grinding that way.

Still can't get paint to stick to it for more then a year, no matter what I have tried.
I'd be interested in how the POR-15 does with Galvi.
My next thing to try is a vinegar wash. If that doesn't work....
Then in desperation I will sand blast it to bare metal.

Try a light coat of etching primer. That should penetrate the coating and give it a good bonding surface.

Tried that, No go. It did last longer then just paint, but not by much.
Also tried ammonia wash, light sanding, High heat painting. The Galvi just does not like paint.

Hmmm. I'll have to test a piece of this with some POR-15 my buddy has, wrong color but it doesnt matter. The piping is 1" EMT. Yeah after the first tack weld I set a fan up. That's not like mild steel fumes! Lol.
