Recently when I open a thread, the pictures do not load, only a blank box that says loading when I place the curser on them. What's wrong?

If you using IE9 for the web that's where the problem is; IE8 was ok but 9 is not. Switch to something like Firefox or Chrome and you should be able to see pictures.

After using Firefox for some time I switched back to IE9 and had the same issue with pictures on this forum. To the right of the address bar is an icon that looks like a piece of paper torn in half (Compatibility View) I clicked that icon, shut down and restarted the browser and pictures showed.

Happy to help. Unfortunately I know what causes the problem but not what the fix is. Oddly the IE 9 problem seems to be a bit spastic. For a while in IE 9 all I could see was a little yellow/orange square but clicking on it did nothing; then for a while I could click on the square and open the picture in another window/tab; then the color in the square disappeared and I couldn't do anything; just checked now and right clicked and selected "show picture" and all the pictures now work. Beats me as I've done nothing to IE 9 that wasn't part of an auto update from MS; I'm going to just keep using Firefox.

Checked per amslube's comment and I or MS apparently turned compatability view on for LOST (the icon is blue) so that must be why picutures work now.

Google chrome or Firefox is your best bet.
