i have an 02 liberty and i was getting a clunking noise up front at low speed. thinking it was a cv joint. but when i put on the brakes it would stop.took pads off which i used ceramic30k ago.put on anti squeal which i didnt use at time of first installation and opened up the clips as much as i could to keep them from moving. no probs since.

Check the rear cv joint on the front drive shaft , mine got bad enough it sounded like chains dragging. It started out that I could only hear it in 4wd but as it got worse you could hear it in 2wd also. It also started clunking when pulling out crom a stop and when coming to a quick stop. Replacing it solved all of those.
