Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new Jeep! Here are some answers or you.

There are some OEM upgrades that are worth it, like Mopar skid plates. However, there is no OEM lift. The best aftermarket lift options (in my opinion) are for sale on http://www.JeepinByAl.com. You can find links to all sorts of fun stuff if you browse the LOST forum. Focus on the KK ('08-'12) liberty sections of the forum, if that's what you have. The KJ refers to the '02-'07 models, and while we share an engine and some front suspension components, many add-ons are model specific.

There are also many location-specific LOST clubs. Scroll way down to the bottom of the forum and you can find the Texas sub-forum. it would be a good place to connect with other Jeepers for weekend trips or for help with installing lifts and other accessories.

Hope this helps!

Sometime on Monday or Tuesday I should be able to do some water fording and tree climbing (perhaps right in the middle of town) with the Liberty. figuring on 5 inches plus of rain and winds of up to 60mph...all courtesy of Hurricane Sandy.

It's been a really weird winter. We only had 3" of snow at our elevation. There is nothing @ 1500' either. Lots high up, just nothing low.

Believe it or not, I actually planted 5 evergreen trees in Dec. and they have grown almost 6" already.
If it wasn't for the cold overnight Temps, you would almost think it was spring here...

On another note, I picked up a gallon of vinegar to test out how it does on priming the Galvi on my rack for paint. Just hope I can get the garage warm enough for the paint to set. Fingers crossed.

I'll be watching this thread, Scar0, as I have galvi pipes for crossbars that I'd like to paint black. Good luck!

Not sure about vinegar on galvanized but it works on aluminum.

I'll keep you all posted on the outcome. It may be a bit since I need to find a helper to get the rack off the top. Not that it is heavy, just awkward, and the wife is too short to reach it with the lift.

Well the rack is off. Not sure how the vinegar wash is going to work. After I finish stripping the old paint off, it does not look like much of the Galvi will be left.
Maybe I should just have it powder coated and be done with it... Thoughts?

Couple of progress Pics.
This one is after 1 vinegar wash. You can see a little discoloration.

Image

This is after 5. I think I went too far with 5 washes. You can see the zinc-oxide has clumped up into little drops where the vinegar created a drip. Once the vinegar evaporated it left behind the clumps.

Image

There is no way I was going to paint over these, so I sanded off all the clumps.
Image

Now I am going to wash it with acetone to remove the vinegar residue, then hit it with the primer (which I still need to get).

Well after a ton of searching, I found some primer designed to use on Galvi. It is 988 - G.B.P.® SELF ETCHING PRIMER, sold by Sherwin Williams Automotive.
Image

It is also sold at Baxter automotive. I ordered 3 rattle cans. Hopefully it will be here in the next couple days.

Received the primer today. It was 86¢ less per can @ Baxter auto, then if I had gotten it direct from from Sherwin Williams, and no shipping fees.
Sherwin Williams wanted $50 shipping to get it to our local Sherwin Williams house paint store. :banghead:
Kinda spendy, but hopefully this will be the last time I need it for a few years. Cost = $15.99 + tax, per can.

Pics to come as I progress...

Hey guys,
Been on here for a while and decided to introduce myself.

I'm 23 years old
In the Navy (currently bored out of my mind at work...yes it's 10 30 at night)
I've had an 01 VW jetta 5 speed, 04 Audi A4 6 speed, and now a 12 Libby.
I just bought some new socks that I'm pretty excited about.

And that's all i can come up with for now.
