Hi Guys, I had my jeep shop install glow plugs in my CRD. I supplied the 7v Etecnos. They supplied a new wiring harness. Any idea how long the job takes. They charged 6 hours. My timing belt install took less.

Two local stealer ships quoted me two hours so it is fair to presume book time is 2 hours actual time is ofcourse less than that....

It's takes half that time the first time but you got to know what your doing.
Edit: Half of 6 hours not what srytrucker posted at same time as me.

Unless they ran into issues, 6 hours is a little much. Did you supply them with the proper intake gaskets?

If they charged you 6 hours, you paid for someone(s) to train.

It took me 3 hours completely by myself and I just had some pictures from here for reference, read some posts, and the tools in my garage.

I did it in my driveway, not in a comfy shop equipped with all sorts of lovely power tools and hundreds of hand tools with pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical options of usage.

You sir, have been raped.

Its supposed to only take 3.5 to 4 hours according to the dealership. I was personally quoted 6 hours also from another dealership. 6 hours is fine if you are not familiar with the vehicle as you have to find where they are It took me about 10 hours because I messed up a few times on glow plug 3 when I had to replace the elbow intake and did not know where to look. I'm also a bigger guy and had difficulty getting to some spots. If I had to do it again I can replace Glow plugs 1,2, and 4 in about 45 mins to an hour. but replacing Glow plug 3 and putting everything back would still take me about 3 but no longer than 4 hours.

6 hours is way too much. Dealer charged 3 hours back to Chrysler when they did GP #3 under warranty. The other three would take no more than 45 minutes in total.

I think there is 2. I would have to check IDparts again.

The gasket I used was the intake elbow gasket (P/N: 5066946AA). Thanks to some pics from papaindigo and a write-up by BlackLibertyCRD (search for "Glow Plugs R&R") it took to me ~4 hrs including some occasional head-scratching. :)

Just spoke to the service rep. They actually charged 7.5 hours which he said was the book time. Going to take it up with corporate.

Think I'd go to the dealer 1st and have them show you in the book 1st. Then I'd ask to talk to the regional service rep.

Also isn't there a private book that independent shops use too ...... what the time shown in it ?

Stay in the chain of command within the Jeep route.
