Thanks Cat. I ordered my ORM hose there.

What benefit do the Samco hoses offer?

Thanks

Higher quality, wont burst and leave you boostless like the OEM hose will.

Installed the Samco's with new clamps from BoostController at 55K miles. I had a leak in the driver side hose.

I now have 20K on the Samco's and they're looking good. I did put a piece of protective foam tape over the passenger side hose as it looks like it was rubbing on the hood insulation.

I'll add that I towed a lot this winter. I put the hoses through their paces running 80+MPH through West Texas, NM, CO.

Mine are en route from Boost Controller. I tried ordering from Turbo Wholesale, but they wanted me to wait about 20-something days before delivery. The part that pissed me off was that there was no indication when I ordered that it would be a problem, after they emailed me the second time putting me off for a week I demanded that they refund my money. I turned around and ordered from Boost Controller and they were shipped the same day, and I should have them tomorrow.

I installed mine over a year and 20K miles ago. Like them, they're red, to match my CRD. My old ones were fairly clean, ran the EHM and ORM so that may have helped. I do tow and get pretty far off in remote areas so I want all the reliability I can get.
Thanks Sam.

I'm really scared about how much these hoses swell under boost. I had to recently adjust them and a couple of A/C hoses to prevent rubbing when expanding. I wonder if the swelling also causes more turbo lag than steel pipe.

The volume expansion of the hoses would not have any noticeable effect on lag. A mechanical engineer on another car forum once did a flow analysis of the lag effects of going with a significantly larger intercooler. As it turns out, the extra volume of the intercooler was filled in a fleeting fraction of a second at the flow rates involved.

Shopping around for Samcos and came across this thread recommending BoostController.com.

Out of curiosity... has anyone tried the Mishimotos listed on their site? They're priced similarly, so no real reason to try a brand I've not heard of, but I thought I'd ask.

Also, what clamps are people using? I'm thinking I'd prefer to NOT use the worm drive clamps.

I got mine from BoostControler site too and just went with the flow kinda and the option of ordering clamps got me into samcos on second thoughts the Mishimotos hoses do not look to bad either and they offer life time warranty which is not bad deal too and seem to be made of similar looking materials.

Yeah - we have them and I found a good set of upgraded clamps to use with them. The clamps are wider than the OEM which is always good except that its a tighter fit on the air intake regulating flap before the intake manifold. Nothing that few seconds of wiggling didn't overcome.

Samco hoses typically do not expand at all under boost. Expanding hose are actually a GOOD thing. A narrow diameter hose when under low load will increase air speed, decrease boost lag etc. However, under high boost conditions the smaller hose becomes a restriction, so an expanding hose will increase its inner volume as pressure increase, limiting somewhat the restriction.

That being said the OE hoses we quite poor- mine were leaking within the first year. The KJ is MUCH better now, much more responsive, better power up high, everything you'd expect from intact hose.

TIP - clean all the oil residue off the fittings with brake clean, then spray the inside of the hoses with hair spray. Hair spray is a lubricant when wet but dries very sticky, which helps the hoses seat and seal.

Wow. Wonder why that's the first I've seen/read/heard of these hoses failing? Weird. I wonder if others have experienced anything similar.

No, The man at BoosterControler was pretty shock to say the least.. Very plight, and very willing to help me.. It was a FIRST for him as well, and a first he has ever heard about. I do remember the hoses did not fit as perfectly as the replacements, they fit like a glove. These have been on over a year with out a problem.. Oilburner

Mine has Samco - Blue CAC hose, replaced at 100K when the timing belt was changed. The OEM CAC are oily and soft.

I'm running Red Mishimoto's because I let my wife order from Boostcontroller.com and they were $7 cheaper than Samco's at that time.

:ROTFL:

So far, so good though!

Installed a month after purchase last year. Old ones were definitely swollen and are still greasy after an industrial pressure wash. Got yellow and they have 20,000 km on them.
