Brake pads and rotors recommendations

My rotors are warped so it is time to replace the rotors and pads. I was looking at Callaghan cross drilled and slotted rotors and need recommendations on brake pads to go with them, I have had good results with beck arnley but can't seem to find right ones for CRD now EBC are good but I am confused about Green Yellow or Red stuff? Any help is welcome.Thanks

If you have napa, get the adaptive one pads and premium rotors. Or get black magic brakes ( front only, *NAPA for the rear still) my front rotors are warped too and I am going blackmagic.

I like the quality of the Centric brand pads and rotors, we use them at my shop, quite braking long life and very few warping problems. I aslo use them on my crd and the have been great so far, also Bendix pads are aslo decent.

Don't get cross-drilled/slotted, please. It is a waste of money, they make noise rust faster etc. They don't stop faster.

Call me a show off or whatever I liked those Callahan rotors and pulled the plug and had used them on my Acura TL with good results so that is done still looking for clarity on EBC or Beck Arnley Or other good pads.

The cheapest organic pads you can find,one of the reasons for drilled rotors anyways.

If you want good brakes that work try Black Magic brakes,they make them now for the front of a KJ.Best combo I've ran on my KJ yet,and yes that includes EBC pads and other high dollar rotors but none compare.I can now even lock up my brakes on dry pavement,that's a pretty big achievement when my KJ is 6000lbs and on 35" tires using the stock master cylinder.

I am a firm believer in Brembo products. Period.

That being said I love the DBA 4000 rotors I have on the KJ but at $150 each they are not cheap. Yes that is $600 a set of 4.

Dimpled or slotted. Cross drilling of rotors crap unless it is done correctly and most are not. Spider cracking is something you have to keep a close eye on when using drilled rotors.

Oh yea, even brembo [edit: OEM] replicas are awesome. Had a set of rotors on my xj for over 20k miles, they still look like new and no wheel shattering, warping, etc.

I'd say to everybody that doesn't know to pay attention on what rotor/pad combo you choose. I got for liberty $120/pc slotted rotors cryo treated (front and rear) with a pretty expensive break pad set from tirerack, after less than 15k I had to change the front rotors, it seems the pads were too tough and heated the rotor too much and this combined with the slotted rotor material resulted in break overheating/fading/pad transfer. This with no towing. Also, I properly broke the new rotors and pads, 10-60 mph with strong breaks and never stopped the car during the process and cooling to prevent pad transfer. The rear rotors are surprisingly as new... same set of pads on them too. but rear doesn't heat as front either. Then I went to autoparts and got a 60 bucks set of rotors that are almost perfect after 20k+ miles. Next rotors for liberty will definitely be brembo, they are more than reasonably priced on eBay and in my experience are worth every single penny. Anybody knows where to buy brembo pads for crd? Couldn't find any on eBay/online yet.

Brembo makes pads only for their calipers in the US. If you lfind a supplier/shipper in Europe then you might be in luck.

And you're right, I should probably search for jeep cherokee pads, not liberty, if I will search at European sellers. Thanks for the tip!

Make sure it says KJ on it as well. The best source is the Brembo online catalogue. I used to have hard copies but they no longer print hard copies. it is a great source for finding out what other vehicles use the same brake parts.

You can get a set of 2 dimpled and slotted black zinc coated rotors from ebay for about $65. I know because I ordered a set yesterday.

I purchased a very similar set to install on a 02 Sport caravan that always has rotor warpage/wear problems (probably due to driving habbits) and that was at least 2 years ago. The rotors still have no problems and should be good for a long time coming.

My Dad's only complaint is at first they were a bit noisy but now they are fine. The zinc coating is still on there so far and when we replace pads there is not layers and layers of rust coming off of them like the normal factory ones.

Just FYI, most rotor warpage is from not bedding in new pads and rotors correctly and not tourqing the lug nuts/bolts correctly. These 2 siple things and give you lots of trouble free miles.

I was under the impression that the OEM brakes warped often due to bad pads, unless you are supposed to bed them in when you buy a new vehicle? Of course torquing the lugs wrong could have happened at any tire shop.

Before the pads were worn out, I was having problems with the front rotor warppage/vibrating while braking. Narrowed it down to inconsistent torquing of the lugs--even a few pounds off can make a difference.

Went with Wagner Therm-O-Quiet pads front and rear and Raybestos rotors up front. Never a problem since.

I have to agree that Brembo stuff is awesome. If you are not at 9/10ths with the mongrel on a regular basis, MY OPINION is that you can get into an overkill situation quickly, i.e. you'll not receive the benefit of the extra dollars spent on better equipment when what you are doing is well within the parameters of the stock units. HTH

I would not use drilled rotors for a SUV. Ceramic pads have the best stopping power without overheating.
