I solved that problem by unplugging the trailer and leaving it sitting on two pads - the tongue screw on one by itself. The CRD pulled forward and on its own pad, for a weight of ~4300.

Blew my mind about the trailer however, that thing put down way too much tongue weight, even though I had intentionally loaded everything heavy I could all the way at the back. Two tall metal tool cabinets, a FULL 4' high tool chest, even my 500 lb motorcycle behind the axles.

If the Grand Cherokee is rated at 7,400 lb. towing, then I imagine the Ram 1500 would be slightly better. I just don't know about mileage. It will have a 8 speed trany, which the Grand Cherokee has the 5 speed and rated at 30 mpg on the highway. It would be sweet if the Ram could average 28 mpg.

The truck will have two different axle ratios, one with slightly less/same towing of WK, while the other will be slightly higher.
It's the same engine and trans matching as WK.

The CP4 pump is perfectly fine so long as you run good fuel thru it. It's not a B100 pump like the CP3.

As for towing performance, I'll leave it for you to decide when you hook up to it and go to town.

Regarding the ZF trans, we have the same piece as mounted behind the 6.4L SRT engine.
The trans will take whatever the engine will throw to it.

600hp? That's really funny.

I was lucky the U-Haul trailer was pretty balanced. I added a few things to the car in the hatch area to give it a bit more weight there. No wagging on the way out and it pulled great even in the rain.

Color me shocked about the little 4x8 Uhaul enclosed brick that I just recently pulled from Florida to Connecticut - Empty, that thing had *maybe* 35 lbs of tongue weight. Very nicely balanced. Most of the uhaul trailers I have messed with have been balanced a lot more nose-heavy while empty.

Pulling that with my Jetta Wagon TDI, I figure I only dropped the mileage down to about 28mpg, from 37. Not great, but I was also fighting headwinds for part of the trip which REALLY didn't help. The tongue length on it was also WAY too long for my preference, the leading edge of the box was about 6 feet behind the car. That allowed the front of the trailer to catch the wind, even though it was completely capable of hiding behind the car.

If that trailer had been mine to own, I would have cut the tongue by about half. As it was, the light load (just big, not heavy) sat enough in the front that it didn't bang around or try to wander. On the way back with just a mattress and luggage - the bags all the way in the back by the door made it almost perfectly balanced, or just a bit nose-light... And it had a tendency of making more hitch noise, but still didn't wander. Not a bad pull.

From the Grand Cherokee announcement...

Quote:
The diesel—a first for the segment in American market—also will be available...

Evidently Chrysler marketing wants to erase the memory of both of my vehicles...

Chrysler wants to erase the memory of a lot of things. Funny thing about history. It never goes away it just repeats in various time cycles.

I just saw on the dodge/jeep website that they should BOTH be getting 30mpg highway, better than the original advertisement of the liberty!

 no I can't give a link because I guess I was wrong. I am signed up for the updates and I was reading through all the info and looking at links online and I guess I was looking at the GC little ecodiesel 30mpg logo when I thought I was on ramtrucks page. So we're back to hoping it gets the same MPG...

No worries, I was just curious since Dodge said they wouldn't release any numbers until June/July.

30 mpg @ highway speeds is a believable number.

I am hoping this turns out to be a sweet truck because I'm trying to convince the wife we don't shouldn't get a new minivan.

Just read this article:

http://www.expeditionportal.com/vehicul ... drive.html

They give the grand cherokee 4wd only 28mpg and 2wd 30mpg.

If I understood the article, the diesel option is a $2,300 cost over the Hemi. Initially, that sounds good, but on the other hand, it would take a few years for that option to pay for itself, especially since diesel prices seem to be a good .75 cents over gasoline.

I hope they put a diesel in the Wrangler. I would love 28 mpg in a diesel Wrangler.

It says it's a VM built under license by GM/Daewoo. Look under "Products and licensing"

<Of course, we have no idea what ultimate reliability will be, but so far the VM motors are holding up in other models, including a J8 we have been driving for years.>

I pasted in the above from the GC article. Obviously these don't have EGR's. I wonder what the oil spec is???
