Ok, so the Magnaflow Glasspack that you put on was a 2.5 inch? The local muffler place wanted to order the one that was 2.25 inches. Where did you get the 3 feet of stainless pipe from?

Went to closest muffler shop. I think it was a Car-X or Midas. Yellow sign out front.

UPDATE ON PREDATOR MOD- Check engine light came on today when I first started in the morning. This is the first warning light that has ever come on. Took to the dealer and they said PCM was bad. Ordered one(won't be in till 15 May) I asked some questions and got more info. The active code was for the speed sensor circuit. They diagnose no problem with circuit or sensor so they order a new PCM. My question is "Was this caused by the Predator?" I will install again and see what happens after a new PCM is installed. Good thing for warranty!!! They want to use me for a market tester, I'll use them for a product tester!!

Onthehunt,

Your dealer knows about the predator module and still has offered you warranty service?

You are walking a tight rope. If anything else fails, warranty service may get harder to receive.

Good luck,

Greg

They do not know about the predator module. I took it off before I drove in for service. That's another reason why I bought the Predator vs. the other module that's out there. I can hook and unhook the Predator in under 30 seconds easy.

Does the predator have multiple modes, or is it just hopped up all the time?

The predator is non-adjustable, just plug it in. It does say "stage 1" on the back of the module. They say it's good for 60 hp and 100 lbs of torque but I couldn't be sure unless I dyno'd it. One thing I do know- I would blow the doors off of a stock crd!! I wonder if there is a stage 2 or even 3??

Ahh, so YOU're the reason my warranty is so expensive. Thanks. :P

I'm considering installing the Magnaflow cat-back system (#15870) but was just taking a closer look at the stock system. I noticed that the diameter of the stock pipe drops to about 2 1/4 at each welded joint. I also noticed obvious variations in diameter uniformity throughout the system, with an especially noticeable crease a couple inches on the cat side of the flange. Given these many restrictions, I wonder if there could be any significant benefit to adding a cat-back system beyond whatever benefit the replacemnt of the stock muffler provides. I mean, if the cat-back system has a uniform 2 1/2 inch ID but there will still be a number of 2 1/4 ID sections upstream, does the uniform 2 1/2 really matter? Or, is it the total resistance to flow caused by the sum of all restrictions that matters? Is doing away with, say, half of the number of identical restrictions significant insofar as performance goes? In other words, would a cat-back system give me much more than a new muffler?

On a dyno at high rpm you might see a horsepower or two difference between a perfect 2 1/2" exhaust and one with imperfections...maybe. In the real world the only difference I see between just replacing the muffler and going with the 15870 catback system is spending $300+ more for the catback system.

That's a clear way of saying it. I'll probably just swap out the muffler for a Magnaflow.

Another question. Although good performance is my primary goal, I also want quiet sound. If I install a Magnaflow a bit longer than the 12226, will I lose much in the way of performance? How does performance and sound vary with length? I'd ask Magnaflow if they were open right now. Will call them MOnday.

I have a Magnaflow exhaust with a side exit. With the passenger window down I can barely hear the exhaust note. The Magnaflow muffler is a straight-through type. If you click on my link and look at the Magnaflow page there's a picture of it.

I don't think there would be much (if any) performance penalty by going to a longer version of the muffler. You're just trading a longer muffler for a shorter tailpipe.
