Still diesel, but not Jeep...it's a V10

Hello CRD brothers, after almost 10 years of KJ CRD I sold it, (it was 12 years old..) and switched to a Euro SUV, a Touareg V10 TDI.

I loved the KJ and it never let me down, we've been through some rough situations and always brought me home. And to work the next day. :mrgreen:

I would like to do some pro and cons if I may, but remember I am in Europe and that changes things.

Ok here we go:

PRO's

- Nice sporty look, unique in the market, doesn't look like everything else
- Interior space is huge, KJ's are bigger on the inside then Grand Cherokee's (higher roof)
- Super reliable, 120.000miles never touched the engine other then t-stat and maintenance
- Drives good on and off-road
- We felt save being higher up then other traffic
- Renegade light bar ..fantastic mod
- With a power chip my 2.5 had heaps of torque
- You can plug the EGR with a 5 cent screw :-)r

CON's

- Fuel consumption (I don't care but a 2.5 Audi diesel would do 40Mpg, my KJ did 20mpg)
- Cheap looking interior, bad seats
- High price, it was $41.945 new
- OEM spare parts are ridiculously expensive :shock:

- Dealer network is absolutely horrible to deal with
- The roof started to rot after only 5 years
- No room for left foot on manual tranny (wtf?)
- Poor brakes (mine had drums at the back)

Anyway, after 15 years of Chrysler products, I decided to try a German, I hope it will last me as long as the KJ did. I'll still be around, I need my daily Jeep shot. (and VW boards are no fun) :jester:

That v10 touareg is a torque monster. I drove one years ago in Europe. I didn't want to get down from it, lol. It puts those diesel pickup engines to a shame. We even had the v10 here in us but only for few years, I think 2004-ish. And the average idiot was complaining about it all the time, was not a successful SUV. Congrats on the new purchase, i wish you to have better mileage than with your jeep, but I doubt you will. Never the less, with that engine, last thing I would care about would be mileage! Lol.

The biggest problem we had in the states. Is the transmission couldn't handle the power. I almost got one myself the power was amazing.

Good luck with the Touareg, as long as it is a diesel, you are still in the brotherhood.

Its a shame.. But when its time, its time..
I guess next time I come to Barcelona, we'll be hanging with the VW crew. I hope they are just as much fun!

I have had no problems with my roof rotting but I do stay in a warm, dry envirement and the Jeep is locked up 90% of the time.
OEM prices are even worse here.
Dealer network here just as bad.
I also had a problem with having no space for my left foot on my RHD drive 2.5 CRd so the first thing I did was take a large hammer, pulled back the carpeting next to the transmission tunnel and hammered a nice step into the transmission tunnel for my left foot to rest on.
Fuel consumption OK for me....most travel done on the open road.
I tried that Italian power chip you used...gave me a bit more power but consumption worsened. Chip blew up on the open road after about two weeks use so I threw it away.
Plugged my EGR as well....much better.
Brakes are poor...one year later these CRDs came out with disks at the rear and ABS standard....just have to be more careful about braking distances. Hand-brake/park-brake pretty useless on all models I think.

I will be keeping my 2.5 CRD for ever I think....if I win some money on the Lotto I would also have a look at the V10 Toureg which we also get here...looks very neat.

I think the climate over here is about the same, very dry. It's a factory fluke, many KJ's have it, it starts on the weld right behind the tailgate glass hinges and then somehow it starts to buble on the right hand corner, next to the hinge. It rots from the inside out, something went wrong there when the KJ took the anti- corrosion bath at the factory. Other then that, no rust whatsoever on mine. But we don't use salt in the winter so that helps a lot. :wink:

Lol. Not very fair for the Chevy, that truck had traction only on rear. But the guys at top gear pulled a 747 with a v10 touareg. Pretty bad a s s that v10.

Ok, first impression after a week:

It takes a while to get familiar with a new car and if that car has a user manual 2,5" thick it's even more complicated, but I know how most things work now, still working on my knowledge of the Navi radio. :oops:

I got the phone working though, with voice commands. Yeeah me.

It has keyless entree, which took me a day to figure out how to lock the darn thing, it starts with a button, no key needed, that's nice. MPG is actualy really good for such a big engine/heavy SUV (+/-23), unless you want the 300+ bhp, then it drops to 12mgp :roll:

For some reason I remember Clarkson with his smart comments when they pulled the 747. But I was definitely wrong, I think he pulled some wood logs though, if I think more...

Anyways, nice little diesel you got, lol.
