I'm glad ID parts has an inside line now.

Yup, this is good news for us, cheaper water pumps is a plus, I need a replacement tensioner at some point, $160 is better than $260 from Jeep.

How about the valve used as their PVC system with the return hose to the intake?
Do they fail or do they just need cleaning?
PM sent also.

I have no idea what happened with what contract or who was involved. I know that DCX clearly went through a lot (namely breaking up with MB, who was their connection with VM anyway) and VM has undergone US distributor changes as well.

What MrMopar said scares me, so I hope it isn't true...maybe we should take down this thread? Either way, I can't believe that the current Dodge/Jeep company actually gives a crap about us...it sure doesn't appear like their do considering their inability to keep vital parts in inventory.

Otherwise VM North America would just sell them directly to the customers and save everyone the hassle.

I'll have to check on this......

For what its worth I was told there is no "VM North America" any longer...

Take a look at the ARP stud thread page 5 and you will see what I mean.

While I can't speak to the yield point on the bolt versus the head gasket, re-using head bolts REALLY sounds like a bad idea. All my years of automotive work I've never heard anyone ever suggest it.

I'm betting VM's agreement was with Daimler. Either way ID Parts is completely in the clear - third parties cannot be bound by outside contracts under US law, except under VERY special circumstances. If VM is breaking their agreement with Chrysler, Chrysler's recourse is to go after VM, not IDParts. And Italy has lawyers too - I really doubt VM would be selling to ID parts unless they were allowed to.

Disclaimer - IANAL (but I married one and wrote construction contracts for 20 years.)

If the bolts were in fact initially torqued to the yield point, then you would be correct, this would be a very bad idea because of the potential that retorquing would stretch the bolt to the failure point. But this is not the case with the CRD, because the head itself YIELDS in compression before the tensile fastener (bolt or stud) reaches the yield point of the TTY head bolt. At 140 FPT, the torque value for ARP studs corresponding to the yield point of the factory 'TTY' bolts, the head was compressed at the glow plug holes enough to make
removal problematic. The head yielded locally and generally before there was sufficient tension on the fastener to cause yielding of the factory bolt. You can also see this from the behavior of the factory bolts on the head itself. If the factory bolts did not yield, then there is no point in buying new bolts unless the bolt heads are degraded. Just to put the the final nail in this argument, once I get LIbby 1 back on the road, I will weld up a fixture and torque a factory bolt until it yields or reaches 250 FPT whichever comes first, with measurements and pictures, and we can all see what happens and how many degrees of rotation in a freely rotating fixture it takes to get to the yield point.

Which goes back to my point about the poor choice of head fasteners, and why ARP studs are a much better solution.

Second the motion. Bearing sets and sleeve/piston sets.

I hope IDparts can continue. I am picking up our first CRD Liberty tomorrow and I'd love to use the same vendor that has provided parts for me to service my tdi! :JEEPIN:

Funny thing is I didn't always use IDparts for my VW, until they started selling parts for the Jeep and now I get both there.

Things are still trickling in - mainly waiting for a big container order that is somewhere in mid-atlantic.

New-style fast glow steel plugs jumped in price from Mopar to over $100, but we convinced Bosch to sell directly to us and we can retail for $24.95 each.

[Edit: can't spell]

So for a set of 4 100 bucks and is there anything else required besides programming the ECU?

Excellent!

How about Elring HGs? Pretty please with sugar on top and a side order of home-made southern pecan pie?
