Has any one tried this?

When trying to accelerate from a stop into traffic, CRD spins wheels instead of advancing forward.

Try this, put the CRD into 2 gear and you will get a faster take off with less wheel spin.

Hopefully I can increase my tire life as well?

Sounds like you really like drag racing.
Have you tried putting it in 4wd? Can you smoke all 4 tires?
A set of drag slicks might help too.

I don't get it. What is 2 gear? 2wd or 2 on the tranny selector? Because it always starts off in first gear whether you choose 1 or 2.

Yeah I thought 2nd gear on the transmission means it only shifts UP to two max... I can't spin my tires any more (honestly I haven't tried with the bigger tires... I'll try again with 4.10s)

I have used 2nd gear on several auto trans vehicles my entire life when I was in snow or mud stuck.

The vehicle is locked in 2nd and will not shift up or down no matter what the speed, you give it a try and see if it shifts from 1st to 2nd, or see if it helps with wheel spin. It has worked flawlessly every time I take off, acceleration out of the loose stuff.

I am thinking, it will also help with rear pad life, because the ESP will not be putting on the brakes when it breaks loose?

I understand what you're saying. In other vehicles I have driven, selector position 2 does indeed keep it in 2nd gear. They will start in second from a dead stop. But in my CRD, it starts in 1 and shifts to 2.

When I got my GDE trans tune I even asked them if they could make it start in 2nd when the shifter was in 2, and they said it was not possible with the Chrysler TCM software. To me this would have been useful in 4 LO mode, when the constant 1-2-1-2 shifting gets old. There's plenty of torque to start in 2.

I am pretty sure I am dropping into second just before I come to the intersection to stop? I will put in P then try 2nd next time and see what happens?

You leaving it 2nd or "D" while in 4low? Just stick it in 1st and enjoy the ride.

It will start in 1st then shift into 2nd and go no farther.

In any event? I usually down shift to 2nd just before I stop at the intersection. I am not getting wheel spin the way I normally do, and do not feel an upshift take place. I do not have the ESP light coming on, or the sound of the rear brakes locking.

I kind of doubt I can imagine this? :ALONE:

For those of us with 2006's it's a non issue as the "ESP" feature takes control on jack rabbit starts :JEEPIN:

As others mentioned my dad when driving in snow started in second gear on his 1952 Ford with a Ford-o-Matic transmission :SOMBRERO:

Just 1or 2 depending on conditions.

Honestly I do not have enough offroad experience, I will have to try leaving it in 2nd next time.
