New guy just joined here last night. Just got this thing yesterday, ran fine. On my way home from work today, pulled from a stop sign, got on it a little, but nothing serious, and all of a sudden it just fell on its face and barely ran. I nursed it to a house, bumbed a ride home and went and picked it up with my truck and brought it home. Could barely get it running to load it or unload it. It sounds like crap, kinda knocking a little, real rough, no power at all.

My 1st thought is intercooler hoses? As I'm pulling those, the inside of them is all oily. Inside of turbo is oily, but it spins freely. I dont see any obvious holes in the 2 hoses though.

Is there anything I should look for in particular that would cause this? I cant check/ dont have tools to check codes. Check engine light was already on from this stupid Edge EZ chip thats on the jeep. That's gonna come off soon.

If this was my Cummins I'd have no problems, but this CRD is all new to me. Thanks for any/all help! I need to get this thing back on the road asap.

Howdy Hotstuff

Did you turn everything off and try to restart it? - standard Air Fuel tend to run okay after a reset.

CAC hoses are a real possibility - there can be a small leak or a big tear - engine's a dog without turbo pressure.

you need to get a way to read codes - Edge by itself won't trip them (I ran one for a couple of years)

If it's new to you - odds are it's over 100K miles - do you have documented proof i.e. receipt that the timing belt was changed?

lastly - post over in 'CRD Love that torque' - you'll get more diesel folks

(add year / mileage/ location info)

Its a 05 CRD, 92, 000 miles, no record of timing belt. I'm planning on that soon. Ya its been shut off and started several times, to know avail. And barely runs.

Ive got the hoses off. All oily inside. No obvious holes. How do I read the codes? Do I need a scan tool?

Almost acts like it jumped time. Kinda weird though how it all happened when I romped on it a little.

92K but it's also 8 years old - on a timing belt that they recommend a 6 year life (in Europe)

also if you've been running stock 'full EGR" you have enough grit in the oil to grind the rocker arm bearings down

- several discussions over in the CRD section - also while you're there - check the Noob guide including the link to the manual.

codes need a scan tool (if you can get it drivable - most part shops will read the codes)
one of the Harbor freight $40 ones works (I don't remember the number)

all oily in the hoses is not a bug - it's a design feature

Ya, it's not driveable.

I'm planning on the EGR delete stuff and most other upgrades. Remember, I just got this thing yesterday. Give me time! I gotta get it back on the road first!
