Luckily I was going 15 MPH and was right next to a parking lot.
Lets see if Jeep fixes this one!

Got it fixed amazingly quick at my mechanics. $868 later...
I've gone through the threads and recalls but can't find anything for the upper ball joints, just the lower. Hs anyone else had this happen?

Not on my Jeep. But yes, they wear out and need to be maintained.

I just discovered that my upper ball joints are currently dangerously worn and loose. While rotating my tires I decided to jack up the front wheel using the lower control arm instead of the frame, as recommended in this thread: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4348
With the wheel off, I found I could easily move the hub around with probably more than 1/4" of play clunking around in socket of the upper A-arm on both sides of the vehicle. Disturbing to say the least. And needless to say, JBA A-arms are on order and driving the 'ol CRD is kept to an absolute minimum.

I'd recommend checking the ball joints, upper and lower, periodically.

I will be doing the uppers, lowers and tie rod ends on my CRD. I figure 100K is a good time to do that. Rather replace early than when it is too late.....

every oil change - rotate tires - check ball joints - check brake pads - make it a habit and you don't have to worry about surprises. :2cents:
