Alright, I'm going to send the injectors off to be checked out.

Has anyone ever heard of these guys, they seem very legitimate:

http://www.rceng.com/Fuel-Injector-Cleaning-P43C0.aspx

This is the link to their injector test page, they're a Bosch certified shop and they will clean and test them for $24 each and let you know all the information.

When I get my scanner from GDE next week I'll share any codes, but right now I'm banking on fuel injector issues.

Be sure to record the injector ser #'s & re-install them in their original locations.

Yeah, I've had them written down in my "Jeep Book" since I sent the ECU off to GDE last year.

Thanks.

They have a good reputation for the import market, haven't heard of them with diesels but I doubt much is different...

Hexus...Did you find any leaking injector at the copper seal? The copper seal is to prevent a compression leak and the O-ring is to prevent water and other things from dropping in between the injector and the intake. Inspect the lower surface where the copper seal sits, It must be clean and smooth?

Still not a bad idea to send the injectors out.

Best regards,
KJJET

Well here's my plan:

I've ordered my code scanner from GDE, it should be here Tue/Wed so I'll read what codes caused it to go into limp mode.

I've also ordered ANOTHER new set of copper crush washers and o-rings for the fuel injectors, because if I take them out to check them, clean them, whatever I'm going to go ahead and replace them yet again.

There is NO fuel whatsoever showing on top of the engine where the injectors go in. IT sounds like it's sucking air somewhere, but I checked the torque on all the bolts, and they're torqued to Service Manual specs... so dunno...

So with some time and the good lord's patience I'll see what's going on in the next couple days.

Well this sounds like mine...just got done hg replacement, arp studs, new rockers..well what do you know soon as I start it up sounds like your and I said the same thing (what the hell)...

ok mine was injector number 4 in the back....took a cup of water and dumped it down along all 4 injectors and number 4 blows the water right off the motor..so I fixed that just took it back out and put a second M10 copper washer on it and new o ring fix it.

Then glow plug number 1 decides to shoot out the hole...had to drill tap then helicoil it fixed..

Then injector number 3 blowing out smoke so took some water again number 3 blows the water off the motor did the same thing as #4 stacked up two washers and new o-ring fixed it..

and finally go and take it for a long (well tried to) drive to our cabin up state and o 2 hours from home glow plug number 2 decides shoot out the hole last night

Oh boy, something to look forward to, I just finished the HG and rockers my self. 500 miles, runs great. When I was replacing the washers on mine, I noticed a small build up of carbon under the old washers. I used a pick to clean the corner so that the washer would sit on all the way. Still to early to tell, but no problems so far.

Cleaning is the most important thing. I used a little fuel and a small wire brush on a drill to clean the lower surface where the copper washer sets, that's the most important place as to keep from having a compression leak. Placing a bit of water around the injector's sounds like a good idea. I would try that!

Well you made it 500 miles you should be fine...I didn't make anywhere for injector #4 or glow plug #1 happened right after I started it..and injector #3 took about 10 miles...and glow plug #2 took 150 miles

I did take a wire brush with my drill and cleaned that and the whole intake also...yeah take water around the injector and when you fine the ones that's leaking take an air hose and blow the water away so it doesn't go down into the cylinder then shut the motor off

for the glow plugs take a stethoscope or a home made one (a rubber hose and a piece of plastic tube like 8inches or so) stick it by the glow plug listen for air

I used carb cleaner on a piece of shop towel to get the holes sparkly clean, then I rechecked hold-down bolt torque after a hundred miles. Did not check the new metal GPs, as those were tight going in.

Alright, I was completely off. It had nothing to do with fuel injectors or anything fuel or top end related. I have the dreaded P0700 code. Transmission shop for me tomorrow apparently.

New TC and pump and maybe OD clutches and you'll be on the road.

This is the link to their injector test page, they're a Bosch certified shop and they will clean and test them for $24 each and let you know all the information.

When I get my scanner from GDE next week I'll share any codes, but right now I'm banking on fuel injector issues.

Late to the party, here.

I'm really surprised that you could not find a certified Bosch diesel shop in the Nashville area. My parent company is in Louisville, KY, is definitely Bosch certifed and could have tested those injectors for you, likely in less time, but more like ~$50 each.

Edit: For future diesel needs, here is a place you might consider:

Hope this helps.

Absolutely, will do. I'm a born and raised Hoosier Myself.

Guy at the Transmission shop is VERY familiar with the 545RFE, he's worked on it in a lot of Dodge trucks and Durangos. He says they're pretty Bomb proof. His initial estimate is that a solenoid pack has gone bad because pressure codes are all he's pulling, Pressure A, Pressure B, and Pressure C.

I have some old cover damage, and I think I might just go a head and upgrade the TC while they're in there, not sure yet.

When I hear more I'll update and start a new thread about it.

If you are far enough in to replace the TC best upgrade to the new front pump and save a possible future headache.

Pressure readings like that may be the valve that the TransGo kit replaces.......or the pump.

Anyone have any info on the Transgo kit?

Part #, supplier? I'd really not like to wish a couple days down the road that I didn't take an alternate path.

I'd like to be able to weigh all the options.

He won't have a full assessment/estimate for me until tomorrow morning anyways.

Neither of the Transgo kits I just looked at have any kind of pump with them. They're a shift kit and a Repgrogramming kit, both of which require a full transmission removal to install.

Thanks again!
