Glow plugs, 5V or 7V?

I have to replace 2 glow plugs on my Jeep Cherokee (Liberty) 2.8 CRD from 2005. It is the model for export, bought outside the US.
It seems I need the Bosch 0250 302 004 7.0V, but all I can find in my country is the Bosch 0 250 402 003 5V.
On the original glow plug I can read it is the first one I mentioned, the right one.
Would it matter if I put the 5V instead?
What other alternatives of other brands do I have? NGK, BERU?

As far as I know your choices are 4 OEM 2n generation 5v glow plugs, new controller, and a flash of your ECU to supply the proper 5v to those glow plugs or http://www.dieselglowplug.com/gx3123-di ... svli5qq877 for steel drop in (no controller or flash needed) 7v glow plugs. Some have dropped these in to replace some but not all of the OEM 7vs. My personal opinion is that replacing all the OEM 7v ceramic glow plugs once 1 or more fail is probably best as they have been known to break and trash heads, valves, and/or turbos.

You have 3 options, as I see it.

Option #1 - (Cheapest) - Find a member with 2 used ceramic 7v glow plugs and buy them, there are a few floating around and one here recently.

Option #2 - (Mid-Line) - Order 4 Etechno Glow Plugs from http://www.dieselglowplug.com/gx3123-diesel-glow-plug-jeep-cherokee-liberty-p-2032.html, remove your old glow plugs and drop these in their place, drive on. There are some (probably truthful) arguments that these don't get as hot as the 7v ceramics, and people in the extreme north have experienced some difficulty cranking with these, but no more so than the 5v which are also not as hot.

Option #3 - (Most expensive) - Order the 5v glow plug set, and have the dealer (unless you know a local garage that can change Chrylser tunes...) install them and flash the ECU with the new programming, or if you have a GDE Tune pay Keith the $50 for the flash changes for the new GDE tune for the 5v glow plugs, and you're done.

It seems that these Bosch Glow plugs are discontinued. So, what glow plugs should I get?
Actually I found ones that are being offered on the web at: http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/pro ... 434AA.html
How could it be that they still have them if Bosch no longer produces them?

tHE MOST CONFUSING THING IS THAT i CALL cHRYSLER IN aRGENTINA AND THEY SAY that the glow plugs for my Jeep Cherokee 2.8 CRD are 5V according to my VIN nUMBER But then over the timing belt there is a legend saying CAUTION GLOW PLUGS ARE 7V. So should I trust this legend or the Chrysler people?

Put a voltmeter on them and check the voltage when you coldstart the Jeep.

I cant crank it because i have to replace 2 glow plugs and one of them was broken inside the cilinder when my mechanic tried to unplug it.
There is a sign saying "Caution ceramic glow plug 7V as you can see on my attached photo:

The warning is to AVOID anyone doing a quick "field test" with 12V.
DO NOT PUT 12V ACROSS THE GLOW PLUG.....EVER. It will destroy them. This is for a railed Voltage.
5v OR 7V on Etecno is no matter - slightly less heat @ 5V.

Frankly, I cannot understand why you would not consider the Etecno units that are so robust over a Ceramic Bosch unit when the Etecno are so robust. You can mix and match and economical.
They could still have old stock of the Bosch units which I would not touch.
I too, would recommend doing the lot.

The previous posts in this thread have given you the information you need. Hexus and papaindigo for the source and solid information.
Go with the Ceramics from Chrysler supply and in 50000 km you will go through this all again and run the risk of a piece of ceramic breaking off which will mean the head will need to come of unless you have someone on hand who is sufficiently skilled enough to pull a glow plug and the injector and use a functional endoscope to remove fragments. It is in their charter to push original parts and in their interests with future parts/work.

I will try to buy the 7v Etecno in the US. But for this i will have to travel to get them. Cant believe Bosch didnt care to have a replacement for these glow plugs

Is it possible to buy the Etecno glow plugs in a store in the US? If so, where? Or do I only have to buy them online?

Online only but delivery is pretty prompt and in the few cases that I have heard of where there was a delivery issue a free replacement shipment was done promptly

They are made by an Italian company. The Chrysler replacements are 5v, so there is an OE option. Take your choice.

If i buy the 5V plugs i ll have to a add a voltage regulator plus flashing the ECU, right?

Well, just browsing, but I (and quite a few others) bought from dieselglowplug.com. . . the manufacturer of the Etecno Italian metal 7v plug.

Customer service equaled only by Keith an GDE.
