Hey guys, I've been noticing a drive line vibration when slowing down. It starts at 30 MPH and then ends around 15-20 MPH. It also occurs around 50 MPH. It almost feels like the drive shaft is out of balance. I had this issue on a '05 Wk and they dealer had to replace with a new drive shaft. At first I though it was the tires as they are wearing horribly. I've rotated and even swapped the spare tire on to try and solve this issue. Today on my way home I figured I would try to put it in 4 HI and see if it would still happen. This seemed to make it very minuet and almost go away. I'm sort of at a loss of ideas to try right now. I do have the drive line slop when letting off the brake form a stop. There is a thud then it's fine. This happens most of the time right after I let the break off. I was told this is normal from the dealer. I'm wondering if this is something wrong with the t-case? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

The clunk sounds like the rear driveshaft splines need to be greased. They can take it off and do that when they inspect your u-joints. I think that's causing your vibrations. It's less in 4wd because the rear driveshaft is carrying less torque in that mode.
Ujoints are only about $20 apiece, and they are replaceable.

I'll check out the u-joints and grease the driver shaft. Thank you for the idea. I'll check it out and report back.

Drive shaft u joints are ok and greased. Still have the skip and the vibrations are getting worse! Feels like I'm running super swampers. Any other ideas?

How did you check the joints? Did you take the driveshaft completely off and check them for free motion? Just asking the obvious because several people have been through this saga.

I took the shaft off and checked it out. I also greased it at this point.

That is surprising that it didn't solve the problem! On mine, it was the rear U joint that connects the shaft to the axle. It looked fine, but when hammered it out, two of the four caps were full of rusted bearings! I really couldn't tell if it was that bad until I popped out the U joint. When you greased the splines on the other side of the shaft, what kind of grease did you use and how did you re-attach the boot?
