Jeep goes into limp mode

5 min later CEL - torque scan shows P2099

Inspection of everything in engine bay shows or smells nothing. no leaks in hoses, vacuum lines not kinked or loose, etc..

clear the codes, Jeep still in limp mode

Stop again, turn it all off, clear the codes.

Starts up, runs like you stole it!

Second time this year this has happened.

Anyone else experience this?

It's like a random fault that just needs to be cleared all the way through.

Probably either the actuator arm/vanes are sticking or solenoid is on the way out.

If the arm moves freely when you test it, buy a new solenoid. You will need one eventually, either way. They seem to last 50-60K miles.

Interesting: does the 2005 have some other scheme/device? I ask because I have 168,000 miles on my 2005 now, and have never had this problem.

05 and 06 are the same. I don't know that the solenoid is prone to failure in any given time frame but of course it can fail as can any part.

Thank you, @papaindigo. I only asked in light of a previous poster's claim that they seemed to last only 50,000 miles or so.

I haven't seen any particular chat on this solenoid failing at any particular point in time certainly not like the seemingly routine tstat failure (mine went at 35k, stoutdogs at ca. 40k, and IIRC mikeonabike's at about the same) that we all know and love.
