I am on my second Liberty CRD.
The first I rolled and it was totaled. This CRD had awesome power. I pulled trailers regularly with my welding business and never had any problems where power was concerned.

Fast forward to my second CRD... this CRD really let me down today. It didn't have a hitch and I installed one that I robbed from my wrecked CRD.
I bought a 1800 pound mower 2 hours away and set out to get this machine. My trailer weighs 1500 pounds so let say gross weight of 3300 pounds.
The car did OK empty but when loaded it SUCKED !!!!

This CRD has plenty of pep without any thing hitched.

Where do I need to start in looking for power loss?
First thing that comes to mind is the coolers hoses. Like I said I have decent power empty loaded is another story all together.

Can the dealer hook their computer up and diagnose low boost?

Thanks for any advice.

Tom

I wouldn't count on the dealership to diagnose if it's day or night - even if they're standing outside.

and for sure if there's no code - they won't have a clue.

but no power and no codes - check hoses (occasionally they'll give a code)
and check fuel filter - might not be flowing enough and almost never gives a code

When troubleshooting low power under moderate load / certain conditions (unloaded driver-only operation is exceedingly LIGHT loaded only)

Smoke from the exhaust means you have too much fuel or not enough air - check boost hoses.
Stumbling / stuttering / stalling, no smoke - check air in fuel / replace fuel filter. Fuel flow insufficient for engine operation or air in fuel.
Lack of power at speed, low speed operations normal - insufficient fuel flow or trailer wind loading too large

The lack of power loaded is what is VERY noticeable while loaded. Unloaded its fine. The air in fuel is a puzzle.
I have not changed the filter since I owned this car. Eight months now... owner did a "complete service" maybe the filter has had a air pocket from get go.

I may need to install my old Samco's on this CRD. This CRD never blows black on a fast acceleration so I may have hose issues??? But could I be "just getting by" empty and this only now show up loaded?

Thanks,

Tom

You might of had a bulging boost hose which would sacrifice some of your boot pressure and i would swap them out for the Samcos first then fuel filter then try another trailer wieghing about the same.

How many miles on the beast? Your intake could be mostly clogged with soot if it has been running the stock EGR & CCV configuration all its life.
