Hello,
I have been searching around for an answer to this and have had no luck. I have a 2006 Liberty CRD with GDE eco tune installed in April of this year. Recently, maybe a month ago till now, I will hear an occasional pop from the engine when I start it as well as when it is shut off. This does not happen every time or even at both start and stop. Not to confuse the issue but I think I may have an engine mount loose or some sort of thing that makes a sound when starting from a stop (like a suspension part settling or moving) It is a different sound accompanied by a sensation in the cab, than the pop of the engine.

Could they be related? or has anyone heard of the engine pop at start or shut down and can tell me where to look for answers?

This may be glow plug blow-by, check by tossing a cup of water on top of your glow plugs while the engine is running. I wouldn't recommend doing it while the engine is at full operating temp, just started is best.

Thank you. That is something I hadn't considered. Ill be able to do the test you suggested tomorrow I hope. In case that is the issue what is the suggested course of action?

Really? The glow plugs? I'd like to see you throw a cup of water over them given where they are located it's impossible for three of them

I will assume you meant the injectors.

well, I guess I might have figured out something when I went to look at it after work today. injectors, glow plugs, anything else make a pop noise at start?
