Hello folks. I've had 2 window regulators fail on me in the last 3 weeks. What a royal pain! I'm having a really hard time finding the assembly for the front right window for my Jeep which was manufactured in May 2006. There is an abundance of parts for the earlier manufacturing dates, which I mistakenly ordered and tried to install. However, it does not install correctly because its not for the correct vehicle production date. Anyone have any suggestions to where I might be able to order a part from other than Advance Auto, Autozone, or Rock Auto, because I've tried all those? My last resort is ordering from the dealer, but they charge an arm and a leg for it and would like to avoid it if I can. Thanks!

I purchased mine from 1aauto.com
Check their site, it includes a number of helpful installation videos, too.
Good luck!

You should check with your dealer. I think the part they used in the later vehicles is covered under a lifetime warranty.

Usually the "regulator" is fine; what breaks is a plastic part of the regulator. It's a very common problem for all KJs not just the CRD. Steiger Performance (http://www.steigerperformance.com/dif.cgi?SP13001) is a good place to get a metal replacement for the plastic part. I'm not fond of the cheap knockoffs on eBay.

Be careful to make sure you are ordering the right part. Back in the day it was fairly simple you either needed the 02-early 06 part on the later 06-07 part. But as some dealer repairs were done parts got mixed so sometimes you have to pull the door panel to be sure which plastic part style you have.

+1!!!

I just had the front passenger window regulator lift plate replaced on my 2006 under an "warranty extension" (their alternative to an official recall.) I believe this is good for 7 years from the "on-the-road-date". It's worth a phone call, they can look it up by VIN.

Interesting comment. Have you physically compared the two side by side? For sure the Steiger is the more robust part but either is superior to the OE junk, either of them will give you a mechanism where the weakest link is no longer the lift plate and most importantly, they will both outlive the vehicle.

The Steigers are nice but not worth the $400 price for me to kit out the whole vehicle with them.

Nope have not compared them; just personal opinion leans me toward supporting a small business US based company that developed the fix in the first place. Not that it matters but when we did stoutdog's 06 and my 05 (he had lost 1 regulator, I had lost none, and a friend had lost 3 on a gasser KJ) way back when Steiger was the only game in town, other than fighting with the dealer to get a whole assembly with the same cr@p plastic part, and there was a discount on getting all 4 at a time.

I understand your allegiance but at what cost? These are around $100 for a complete set versus a whopping $400 for the Steigers

Unfortunately they don't ship to Canada or else I'd have a set myself to replace the wooden blocks that are currently holding up my windows

At some point the manufacturer is taking advantage of the "made in the USA" goodwill.

Finally installed both new regulator assemblies this weekend. I was able to find the assembly for the front passenger window on ebay at a slightly cheaper price than the dealer would have charged. The rear assemblies are newer than the original ones. A steel cable on a pulley system seems to be the new "technology" for these things and seem to be more reliable. We'll see. Thanks for the inputs folks.

I went through this with mine back in April the left rear window fell. I was not even opening or closing it at the time, it was closed. I just put something on the back seat, closed the door drove off and pop! looked back the window was "fallen and can't get up" :-)r I did order the Steiger part to fix mine and I have to say it was not too hard to do but I had a small problem I posted on here and emailed Steiger performance for some help. Even on a weekend when He was away he tried to answer my questions and I did get it back together and working in an afternoon. will they offer support like that with that Chinese made knock off? sure its cheaper, maybe not as well made but may still strong enough but its the service and support you are not going to get. I got my order in two days also. will the other place get it that fast? I prefer that over going back to the dealer for anything if I can help it. even if its free it will be with a crappy part that will break again. Plus I have been developing Negative feeling about how Chrysler Treats most CRD owners by pricing parts high, not keeping them in stock Nationwide and not having trained techs at dealerships. So I avoid the dealer if I can.
