I just got back from a weekend at Spring Mill State Park (Indiana) where about a dozen "teardrop camper" owners gathered for their annual Midwest Meet. It was great fun to see everybody and their unique campers. There were several original 1940s vintage campers...some in original condition, some restored. Others, like me, built them from scratch. There were probably twenty people who just came to visit and see the campers because they want to buy/build one themselves.

Anyway, wanted to post a picture of how it looks with the Jeep. The CRD towed effortlessly, of course. I just filled up after my trip and I got about 21mpg. Not too bad considering I did 70-75 mph alot of the way.

Now I think I will be going to bed early tonight....had two neighbor boys with me (10 yr old and 12 yr old)....they wore me out!!!!

Very cool. There was a couple who visited our Moab trip from Wa. that had a home built (IIRC). it was a pretty cool little trailer. Did any of those trailers sleep 4?

You should go to this forum and look around a bit. People have lots and lots of very good ideas and they love to share!

Building the trailer was lots of fun (lots of work too). Hope you decide to make one.

Chris

I don't think any of the trailers at this meet slept 4, but one of them was somewhat larger and was based on an old 40s design called the "cabin car". It had a full bed, sink/vanity, toilet, and a bathtub! Also, a kitchen in the back. Very cool. Here are some pics of the "cabin car" from the guy's album.....it was a work of art!

I remember seeing pictures somewhere on the teardrop forum of a camper that someone had built for off-road use....they pulled it with a jeep. Maybe it's the same people?

Man I would be afraid to ever use something like that for anything but car or camping shows.

IndyCRD - Did you drive into Bedford Saturday afternoon? I saw another CRD...the only other one I've seen on the road.

We really didn't leave the campground at all except for a quick trip into Mitchell on Friday night....we were looking for fire wood since the camp store had already closed. Must have been someone else.

You know, I have yet to see another CRD since I got mine....I check every Liberty as I pass them (and there are lots of them). We are definitely an exclusive group!
