Quick question ... I know this has been covered, but I keep finding conflicting answers. Do the first and second generation fuel filter heads take the same filter? When my dad asked the dealership they said the only filter they have (52129238AA) won't work unless you upgrade the head. Obviously upgraded the head is an option worth considering, but I just want to know if it is possible to simply buy a filter and install it on the current head. Likewise with the NAPA filter. Will they work on either the first or second gen head? Thanks.

I swear they must send some dealer folks to stupid school so they can learn how to mistreat customers, lie, cheat, steal and demonstrate their overall lack of intellect not to mention total inability to think or even read a parts manual. Sorry for the rant but it's been a bit of a day.

The only difference between the 1st and 2nd gen fuel filter head is the physical size of the fuel heater plug and the "robustness" of the heater element to prevent burn out and associated fuel/air leaks caused by overheating of the fuel heater element in the 1st gen fuel filter head. When you purchase a 2nd gen fuel filter head it comes with a fuel filter installed, I know and I'm holding one as I type. Wait for it, guess what the PN printed on that filter is; surprise 52129238AA. So to cut to the chase yes the standard Mopar filter fits BOTH the 1st and 2nd gen fuel filter heads same as the WIX 33647 and the NAPA 3647.

PS when you upgrade the filter head be sure to get the new wiring pigtail. You need to cut out the old fuel heater plug and splice in the new bigger plug. The pigtail pkg has 2 sets of wires, no clue why, just splice in one set using best wire size match as colors don't match and discard the extra set.

x3 My dealership tried the same crap here in Michigan years ago when I didn't know better. Their service manager is a snake. I'd dealt with him at a different dealership and when it went belly up and he was hired to screw customers at my place. i didn't have a problem with my 1st gen head, but eventually I changed out just to be safe.
