Well that's 2 of us in the last 2 months.
Let's not have any more of these for a long while, alright?

I agree. I spent enough money in parts this week. I hate spending money on stuff I need. I prefer spending it on stuff I want!!!

You can barely see the chatter marks on the cam lobes, but still I replaced. Also because one rocker roller wasn't rolling at all. See how bad the wear is on the roller pins??? WOW...... and at least one broken lifter and there were several laying on there sides where they had come off. JUNK.... All of it. So I replaced all the rocker/lifter assemblies, and both cams along with the complete timing kit from IDParts.com (THANK YOU).

Great Job!!!! Just think of the $$$ the dealer would have charged you? If they could have. Most have no clue. Now you can.

So glad things worked out for you!!

Cant begin to imagine paying someone to do work that I can do. I'm 34, and have never payed to have work done other than balancing tires (I'll mount my own). I build/do my own chassis work for our race jeeps, as well as my own engines/trans/axles/gears. I've been a gearhead since I was very young and I'll try just about anything! Helps being a farmboy!

Thanks again for the help!

Once again congrats on finding the issue right away and getting it all fixed and thanks for the photo update!

Astonishing that at 92k miles things could be that worn! So what oil are you going to be running with the new valvetrain? And I think you mentioned you are getting the GDE tune? Should be good to go then! I love the tune, it fixes so much like the fuel gauge and the driveability is amazing. No more dead spot from the start till about 10mph. lol In the mean time you probably heard that you can disconnect the Mass Air Flow sensor to disable the EGR valve as that is the only function of the MAF...to control the EGR. That way you won't get any more soot in the oil while you wait for your tuner device to show up.

Well, I hope you enjoy the CRD! They are a ton of fun!

Yes I unhooked the mass airflow sensor. I will be doing the EHM soon, cause it may a little while til I can get the GDE tune. I still need to get glow plugs, and a thermostat and fix the ripped intake hose. I plan on running Cenpeco 5w-40 synthetic oil. Its a really good brand and we run that brand in our diesel trucks.

After all that, I would get a GDE tune immediately to protect your investment. Also, I would change your oil with Mobil 1 5W-40. every 2000 miles until it stays pretty clear for at least 1000 miles. Then, change every 5000. EHM really helps with keeping the oil clean as well.

EHM is done, as is the ORM. I plan on changing the oil in 1000 miles or so after this and will keep on it after that. I will get the GDE tune when my wallet lets me.

Ive got 300 miles on it now since I did all the work and it runs great. Just hope it continues this way.

(1) So sorry to hear of the trouble, but glad you sorted it out.
(2) Welcome to L.O.S.T.
(3) May your new-to-you little tractor hum right along for, oh, the next 300,000 miles or more.

Like many have said here, I'm leaning towards a fuel-related issue.

Before you buy the second gen head, go ahead and unplug the fuel heater, the plug on the right as you look at your currently used fuel head.

Change the fuel filter, you can get one at O'Reilly Auto Parts or NAPA. It is a Wix, P/N 33647 and should cost about $31.00 + tax.

Also, while you may also have a glow plug issue, plug in the block heater for a few hours prior to cranking.

If the block heater has yet to be used, like mine was when i bought it, you will see the cord zip tied to the oil dipstick.

What is the second generation head?
For all the reading, I've done here recently, this is the first reference to a 2nd generation head that I have seen.

OK - fuel filter head. That's done on mine.
Thanks

That's referring to the fuel filter head. There is a newer version that's been updated from the original.

Is there a link to doing a compression test and the tools needed?

What is the compression supposed to be?

Best test might be to perform a compression test on that cylinder; it's relatively non-invasive as you'll only need to remove the injector to installed the tester.

Just a thought.

Beyond that, since it's in time, I'd suspect air-in-fuel (clogged filter, air entering at fittings near tank or at filter assy), or perhaps EGR/FCV misbehavior.

Without codes - nod goes to air in fuel. Filter change lately? Which gen filter head? Any lift pump installed? Fuel system changes lately?

Most turbo-boost affecting problems (vane controls, CAC hoses, EGR, FCV, MAP) cause sensor rationale issues (codes related to boost/MAP).

So far so good. 5000 miles and is still running great. I hate to but need to sell it actually. I really like this little jeep!
